Big Mike, It's quite a handful, I tell ya. Got a flat cam right now. Weighs about 2500 lbs. Kinda like putting a Z28 engine in an RX2. haha. -grant

Thanks. I pulled the Muncie out of mine too and put in a comp plus. I'll probably keep an eye on this one to see how high it goes. Cleaned up, it would be better than the Chevelle handle I've got in it now.

It went a little out of my price range considering there is nothing wrong with mine.
Nick, you're probably pretty happy with that final price, no?

Welcome. I'm relatively new here too.
PICS! I have a vision in my head of what your car looks like all covered in dust... I'd like to see that...

Gentlemen, I'm watching these and plan to bid on them. You know these pieces would be about impossible to find when it comes time that you need them.
Is anyone else bidding on them on here?
I agree with Jeff, it would be a shame if we bid against each other. (although Nick may not mind. haha)

My 442 is in dire need of some new shocks.
What do you guys recommend? Monroe, Gabriel, Delco, KYB... Does it matter?

My experience with the adapter bearing: I used the Mondello's bearing on my 330 (originally auto). The 330 had a badly drilled hole in the crank. It was not centered and never would have worked with a regular bushing. Using the adapter bearing and no bushing in the hole, the tip of the input shaft does not touch the crank at all. If I did not have that badly drilled hole, the input shaft would have needed to have been shortened. I would not suggest that. I read somewhere (don't think it was this forum) where they used a portable drill press that mounted magnetically to the flywheel and then they aligned it to the hole just right.
I guess, if you are not going to take the crank out and get it done right, the less pretty way of getting the job done is just drilling a big enough hole and using the adapter bearing. (lastly, I have nowhere near 400 hp so I cant comment on that).

My pops met a local guy who has a '65 425 from his uncle's Olds tucked away in the corner of his garage. Guy said as long as it goes into a '65 Olds he'd sell it to me. Definitely going to follow up on that.
Who knows, maybe mine will be a numbers matching, factory 425ci 442 soon.
(I'm kidding... it'll never be numbers matching again, but a correct built 425 is better than a 330 that burns oil and chatters)

I think it's interesting that the engine on the ebay car is painted red, rather than gold. Non-Toronado 425s were painted red. If the factory needed a motor to toss into a car, I wonder which stage they would have grabbed it at; pre or post paint. If the engine was not yet painted, I'd assume they'd paint it gold and just pass it off as a 400. Random thought. this one could have been painted red, pulled from a Ninety-Eight, or put in red if it really was a factory 425.
Lying and/or not knowing what they have... had a guy tell me the other day that his '67 matching numbers Corvette had the original 454... hmmm. must be a rare one.

quick and dirty but might not allow you to create one with very many options. www.gifninja.com/CreateAGif.aspxafter you create it and it's previewing, skip all the rest and just right click and save as. If you do have Photoshop or ImageReady, there are a lot of instructions on google / youtube to create a .gif. You'd get the best results that way.

Well guys, just wanted to share what happened yesterday morning when I was driving the 442.
My dad has been in town so I wanted to take him around to some good car meets. Went to Super Car Sunday off Mulholland Dr in Woodland Hills. Real mellow; cruise in when you want, park wherever, drink coffee, everyone is gone by around 10am. The last Sunday of the month is always the biggest. There were about 300 cars yesterday. A lot of exotic cars and about 100 or so classic and muscle cars. Sorry, no pics unless I can get my memory card to come back to life.
Anyhow, Jay Leno showed up with the Eco Jet. Couldn't even get near it there were so many people crowded around it. As dad and I were waiting to drive out of the parking lot, Leno starts to take off. He ends up facing me waiting to make a left behind me so he can get out of the parking lot. I was looking at the heat boil out of the back of his turbine compartment and noticed he was trying to get my attention. He points at me, motions to the 442 and starts giving me the thumbs up and nodding his head. I returned the gesture then jumped on the freeway. He pulls up next to me for about 5-10 seconds and then "jets" (literally) off down the freeway.
I thought that was pretty cool. I knew he liked Oldsmobiles. Now I know he likes all of our favorite Oldsmobile.

That's probably about how long my Grandpa had his Ralph. He went through a lot of cars. Back in the 60's he'd buy a brand new car about every year or so and trade the previous one in. (back when farming was good) Always plain-jane and as fast as possible, hence the Club Coupe with the HD 3 speed. This is one that he says he wishes he would have kept, along with many others. Got the M21 in last night after finding the bearing that Mondellos overnighted on my neighbor's porch instead of mine. They fat-fingered the address. Got everything buttoned up in four hours and took it on a test drive, but only after a friendly visit from Santa Monica PD because my neighbor complained about the noise (at 8pm). Hard to have a hobby around here. Car runs, shifts and drives really nice. Love that Muncie. My second car with a M21... becoming my favorite transmission I guess. Now I just need another 70 cubic inches.... anyone have those for sale?

Thanks Miksan, I can't get the guy to reply to me at all. I've sent him three emails about different parts. oh well.
If these are not original, what do you suppose they are worth? just trying to gauge how far I should go.
Thanks for your help.

OK guys, took me a few days but here are some (bad) pics. Scott, I'll search around the site for pics of yours. Looking forward to seeing another Mohave Mist post! I love this color. My mom's '72 Impala is a similar color (not exact). My interior is black, although it's supposed to be fawn. It's new interior so I probably won't go ripping it out anytime soon. (plus, black looks nice for now) Br[], I'll get mine on the registry soon. That's a great website. Jasen, My dad told me that there is a pic or two of my grandpa's '65. I'll try to get them when I go back up north next. (At a friend's house, not my '55) The day I closed the deal. and YES, my data plate shows the optional side trim from front to back along the fenders. Nice touch. bad interior pic transmission ready to go in. M21 from a '68 Camaro (close enough. way better than that Borg Warner from an '82 Camaro) my gigantic workspace in Santa Monica. It's clear that some items on the car are wrong. - wheels/tires have got to go - blacked out side scoops should be body color (although I like them that way and I'll probably leave them no matter how much shit my dad keeps giving me) - it has a 330ci from a '64 automatic that had A/C (automatic crank and vacuum activated heater valve on intake) We learned about Auto vs. Manual crankshafts over the weekend. Had to get Mondellos to overnight the pilot bearing adapter. should be here today within a couple hours. All sorts of fun. My dad is down from Washington State visiting me to see the car and help me with a couple things. He had to extend his stay a while. - radiator is wrong, but I bought a repro from Original Parts - Mirror is wrong but I bought a replacement already - sun visors are wrong, bought correct reproductions It had power assist disc brakes added in the front along with power steering. Might as well leave that for now since it works really well and I'm going to drive it. I'll have some more pics as we button this thing up.
