You have to order them threw MJ performance that's the only place you can get them. They will set you back a little over a thousand. Its my understanding that Nick (the owner of ARH...American Racing Headers) used to work for Kook's or Dougs.......which ever one it was, was known for building really nice fitting Olds headers. Nick left to start ARH, when he left the good fitting Olds headers left with him. You can order them from Smitty, (M & J) or Wise performance.... I just picked up the phone and called Nick directly at ARH. He has a website that you can order the headers straight from him and if there are any issues you can deal directly with Nick. He is a really good guy!

Hi guys,
Your gonna love this one...LOL Since my car is by FAR not a restoration I have been looking online and thinking of some ideas of how to restore my pitted chrome, weathered window trim, tail light buckets etc. I have looked at some cars over on Pro-Touring that were very nice resto-mods, and a lot of these cars have the window trim powder coated, some have done trim and bumpers. I am sure I can get this done for a FRACTION of the cost of rechroming and to be honest some of the cars with the right color combination look better with the powder coated trim than with chrome or polished trim. I am thinking since my car is red the window trim would look good powder coated either black, silver or chrome, I am not so sure about the belt line trim I think maybe the powder coated chrome color would look good there, but I am worried about the pitting, if we just smooth the pitting will it come back and ruin the powder coat? what would be the correct process? If I could find a good color combination I would consider doing the grill, headlight buckets, tail panel etc.
What do you guys think?

Just another progress report..... Cam is here, roller lifters are here, more stainless engine bolts arrived, new timing chain, harm balancer, Smitty of M & J has the heads and new Performer RPM intake and is starting them this week, ARH headers underway, getting ready to order the full Mondello bracket kit with PS pump and pulleys, and still debating exhaust but leaning towards Ram Air Restoration's 3.5 oval X pipe into Spintech's with 3" round outlets and 3" tailpipe to the back of the rear tire. Still searching for a good rear end with a 3:73 posi gear, or a housing to start building one!

great info guys, my gears are 323 non posi, extremely worn, may look into a 12 bolt now, buddy has one, or find a better set of gears and posi for mine.would prefer original width, i enjoy dumpin the clutch and bang shiftin, just hate doin things twice Stan, I am going to sell the original 3:23 Posi out of mine. We took it apart before the car was put back together and it was in GREAT shape. Slaughter442 can verify the condition of the rear end as he took a look at it with the cover removed and he has rode in it!

Amen, real57vetteguy, on the 9 inch Ford rears. Everybody around here locally building street rods to drive 40-50 mph back and forth to car shows think they have to have a 9-inch Ford under their rod. Cripes, you don't even need a posi for that...and if they put wide tires on the car, most of those tires really don't give enough traction to cause any trouble. I have yet to tear up a Chevy 12-bolt; we drag raced for years and nevr had any trouble with one, even running 9-inch slicks. There is a lot to be said for GOOD parts. I know guys that bust a 12 bolt posi from 1968 (no telling how worn the bearings were and how much use that carrier has seen) and swear they need to go get a 9 inch rear, all the while if they had installed a good carrier, good axles, durable spline count and good bearings they couldn't break their 12 bolt with slicks and a 100 shot of laughing gas.

if i was gonna go so far as cut one down it would be a ford 9 inch, never break another, A ford 9 inch takes more power to run than any other rear end. If I ever see the day that I break a 12 bolt Chevy with a good posi unit and aftermarket axles on street tires I'm gonna give up... LOL, As a matter of fact Brian and I agreed that my current 10 bolt would hold up to what I do especially with a good aftermarket carrier and axles, but by the time I buy all that and cut a somewhat rare rear end I would be better off just selling mine and starting with a Chevy 12 bolt, strength wise and money wise.

I have been trying to respond to this thread for a while. My phone responses will not load. I have done some extensive research regarding the rear end widths. My Uncle has a 1966 442, his rear end is indeed WIDER than my factory 1965 rear end. I hear a lot of comments about they all fit, in which case they do, but in my case running a wide wheel that just barely fits under the 65 with a 65 rear end, I could not change to a 66 rear end without changing wheels. I am considering picking up a Chevy 12 bolt and cutting it down to a specific width to accommodate my wheels and Disc brakes. I know some of you know Brian Trick, He seems to be the most knowledgeable person I have spoken to regarding these rear ends, housings, and widths. Below is directly out of an e-mail he sent me a few month back, I have found everything said below to be 100% true!
Brian Trick Stated
"The 64-67 Chevelle 12-bolt rears are the same as the 67-69 camaro rears,as far as width goes. These rears are 5/8" narrower on each side, compared to the 68-72 12-bolts. The original 10-bolt that came in a 65 is the same width as the 64-67 12-bolt Chevy. Oldsmobile only had the narrower rears in 64-65,then went to the wider rear in 66."

that looks really nice. amazing what a set of aluminum covers will do for an engines look. there is a blue 455 on ebay that has them done like yours, and it looks good.maybe ill do that to my red 455. I am in the process of doing a set of Sharp/Olds covers, and miloden oil pan Red to match my 455 block, and doing the oil filter adapter, intake, water pump, aluminum radiator and fan shroud a Chrome color!

Might want to powder coat that oil pan too. I prefer the look over the gold iridite. I know... there I go trying to spend your money again. We are going to powder coat the water pump, intake, vlv covers, oil filter adapter, might as well do the pan.... lol I am struggling with what color, I know I am doing the intake the silver/chrome color, valve covers red, but I don't know about the rest, maybe black, maybe red maybe silver/chrome?

Moneys in my pocket I'm ok. What are you going to do with them? It could change at any time but we are going to strip the wrinkle paint and powder coat them to match the block, then polish the top!
