Hi guys,
Your gonna love this one...LOL Since my car is by FAR not a restoration I have been looking online and thinking of some ideas of how to restore my pitted chrome, weathered window trim, tail light buckets etc. I have looked at some cars over on Pro-Touring that were very nice resto-mods, and a lot of these cars have the window trim powder coated, some have done trim and bumpers. I am sure I can get this done for a FRACTION of the cost of rechroming and to be honest some of the cars with the right color combination look better with the powder coated trim than with chrome or polished trim. I am thinking since my car is red the window trim would look good powder coated either black, silver or chrome, I am not so sure about the belt line trim I think maybe the powder coated chrome color would look good there, but I am worried about the pitting, if we just smooth the pitting will it come back and ruin the powder coat? what would be the correct process? If I could find a good color combination I would consider doing the grill, headlight buckets, tail panel etc.
What do you guys think?

ive seen the black chrome, looks good but wears away, never seen the powder coat though. as for pits, i would think the powder coat must seal out the air to keep it from coming back, both sides

The trim with pits will be a three step process: 1. Media blast the finish to expose the pits, may have to strip the chrome. (I am working this process on some parts) 2. Use JB Weld to fill in the pits. 3. Powder coat
The JB Weld will tolerate the 400 deg F for curing thew powder coat.
I have a Cutlass car to make a daily driver, and I am considering the same solution.
