As much a sit hurts to completely agree with Jeffy, I must do it. I don't know why you're concerned about numbers. The ones that count keep finding your site. More traffic equals more clutter and makes it even harder to keep up with the topics. OK I'm done.

If your wanting to expand you should only expand to the 64-65 guys since many of the 64 guys keep up with a lot of the 65 discussions. Start small with adding only 64to the forum and see where it takes us who knows it may become overwhelming to keep up with even the new member 64 traffic. Slow and steady to still keep it a tight knit family so to say. No to 66-67 but only for now.

We will not be overwhelmed by new members.

I fully agree about the popularity of the 65 vs 64-66-67. Do you really want the forum getting so big you eventually can't keep up with all the topics and you start to really only associate with 8-10 other owners. Im a younger 65 owner, (younger not young) and I look to you guys for info that most people these days wouldn't hand out for free. Its nice to have a question answered in minutes rather than days. The bigger this gets the longer it will take for some great answers.

Again why would it take any longer to get a reply? The 65 side is not going away, it would have a dedicated forum. So the same people would frequent it, ask and answer questions.
ClassicOldsmobile.com caters to all Oldsmobiles, every make and every year. You can go to each forum and catch up in about 5 minutes.
Does anyone really think expanding the forum to cover three more years will make this site so busy that it will be unreadable? If there were such people out there, there would already be a 66-67 442 forum.

My apologies I had originally read it wrong. I thought all the years would be combined not put in separate categories. Next Time "I'll Bring My Glasses So I Have Them."

Ok, so let's go back to your original post Jason...
What is your intent/desire? Is it to further the sharing of knowledge and continue to grow the community for '65 442's? Is it to build traffic to monetize the site via paid advertising?

I'm all for adding 64-67. You would only need to seperate the tech forums into years and even that could be broken down into 64-65 and 66-67. The classifieds and everything else could stay as is.

Instead of adding additional years right now it would be nice to better organize the technical section first. Most forums have it broken into larger buckets (such as brakes, transmission, motors, etc) as a first step. It would make it much it more user friendly and easier to navigate to find information.

Thats not going to happen. Thats what the search function is for. Im not going to have 10 forums with 2 posts in them. Most forums cover a larger market and can have forums for each. And they get the traffic to support that. We do not.

Is it to build traffic to monetize the site via paid advertising? The board is 4.5 years old. Its not going to grow anymore than it is. This is it. The proboard forum we use is free, they make money by selling the ads you see. So I cant sell ads even if I wanted to. Only way I could is to buy a vbulletin board and try to find advertisers to cover the costs. I dont want to do that and I doubt there would be anybody willing to pay for ads on an Oldsmobile forum, a small one too boot. From what Ive seen no Olds site has ads, the market is just too small.

I say, open it up. I think it would be interesting, educational, a chance to meet people. Split up like you outlined shouldn`t overwhelm anybody.

Opening up the forum to 64's would sound like a okay deal, as those cars are really similar to the '65s, but I guess I'm not too hot on adding the 66-67's. Those are a horse of a different color, as are the later ones. I've always considered the REAL 442's to be the 65's, since they were the first ones with the 400 motor, being in-line with the other true muscle cars. I don't regard the Lemans as the same as GTO's. If the forum is opened up to all 442's, it will be similar to some of the other Olds' sites. I've always liked the uniqueness of this forum because I could come here for information, conversation and tips that REALLY pertain to my car, not all 442's, or all Oldsmobiles in general. My two cents worth.......
