thanks, to everyone for all the help. I have some good copperseal header gaskets ordered, an assembly manual and the cheap chrome dipstick. I have done a ton of googling the past few days looking at parts and options, I think I have located a 70 model 455, I also found a 425, and I'm not sure if buying the 425 is worth it just to have a steel crank, I would have to pay 400.00 more for the 425. I cant see where a steel crank is really needed for a street engine, I have read a lot of build ups where the srock 455 crank and stock rods were used with nice high end pistons, aluminum heads and a good intake and carb that products 450+ hp and tons of torque. On another note I have seen a couple of pictures of stainless or carbon fiber guage clusters that replaces the entire factory guage cluster but I dont know if someone actually makes these or if each one I have seen is totally a custom build?

If it was on a 65 it was a custom job. Nobody makes stuff like that for our cars!

Got my copperseal gaskets in, had to rig a good upper radiator hose since the 330 is an oddball. but it turned out nice, put the new dipstick in, noticed it didnt even have a thermostat so I put one in. took it for a spin and it still needs carb work but actually does a little better. the more I wrench on this car the more I am getting very attached to it, had a buddy stop by tonight and ofer me double what I had in it but it was an easy decision not to sell it.

A little update: drivers side header gasket started leaking again, im pulling the headers to put on stock manifolds. I am missing a lot of window trim, (the parts that keep the window from flopping around) I need to find this! The guys who helped on the Vette are going to come up and help me get a punch list of parts together, I am no body man. the goal is still to make the car a good fun family driver for now, while I find and buy the build parts. I think afthe talking to my rod shop buddies i will end up converting to power windows, disc maybe all 4 or at least up front, still debating 700 or 200 tranny, air cond, and 455 edelbrock head motor. I'd like a custom dash with more modern guages, and custom seats, door panels and center console.

I always try to search the forum before asking questions to avoid the same topic over and over but I cant find a straight forward answer. I am about to order wheels/tires for the car. I did find a few discussions about wheel/tire size but nothing that really answered my question. I am debating 17" or 18" wheels, I have a wheel picked out and I am leaning towards 18". I would like to run the widest wheel/tire that I can in the rear, but I want to make sure Nothing rubs in the front or rear. The company that makes the wheels I have chosen only makes a 18x8 & 18x9.5, can I run this combination on the car, or should I run 18 x 8 all the way around, also what is the correct backspacing for front and rear to squeeze those under the car?

I have a set of 9.5" wide X 18" with a +10mm back spacing that worked. I do have my cars setting up a bit over stock.

That should look cool! I still can't make up my mind what style of wheel I eventually want to put on mine, but that would be at the top of my list.

CARB UGH the 330 in the car has been upfitted with a edelbrock, best i can tell its at least a 600 cfm. I got the original rochester but the needle/ball float is stuck, and i have had myself plus 2 carb guru's and 2 machine shops work on it, it IS NOT coming out. any suggestions of what carb to put on the 330? keep in mind this is a temp motor, I just want to enjoy the car for about a year until pulling the motor for the 455

I probably didnt explain it correctly, the Edelbrock on it is dumping way way WAY to much fuel into the 330, so I wanted to put the stocker back on but the ball will not come out, so i need to find another stock rochester, or just slap a small (450) cfm carb in it. any suggestions?

Actually I don't think a 600 cfm is too big for a 330 if adjusted properly. If it's dumping too much fuel because of a float, jet or needle issue, that's fixable. However, if you just want to go the new smaller carb route I would go with a off the shelf Holley and an adapter. I have two of them on omy cars with 330's and they work/worked fine when i drove them regularly. The Holley number is an 1850 if I recall correctly. The comment on putting the 4GC in the box is that they are not a great carb and you would need a specialist to rebuild and get it right for you and it's not worth the money for a temp solution. However, if you REALLY want that 4GC redone, use Sparky; www.sparkys.com

Any decent shop should be able to make the carb you have on there work fine for now. Let us know how it goes. -grant
