Hi all,
I'm new to the forum and to 442's. Most of my past has been working on Fox body mustangs (dont everyone curse at once) My father has a very nice 1965 442, its not a show car but a very solid, car, it has been restored at some point, fresh 400, fresh 2 speed transmission, it needs a better paint job, and some very minor interior work. I have rencetly purchased the car to keep as my father is getting up and age and never drives it. My goal is to make a relaible street rod and I dont even know where to start. A nice head/cam/intake carb package, I would like to add air, up grade suspension, and trade out the 2 speed tranny for a nice newer AOD and possibly some suspension upgrades. I do need some minor interior parts, and would like to replace the body chrome before having it repainted. Any ideas or suggestions? does anyone know of some good reputable vendors for parts?
Thanks
Mark

Welcome Mark you've come to the right place. Bunch of great Oldsmobile people here who love 65 four four two's. Ask away on the questions and if you don't get an answer don't think nobody wants to tell you the answer its either nobody knows or the one who knows hasn't seen your post yet. All the ribbing is in fun (you'll understand this later) so welcome and hope you enjoy. Post pics of your ride ..... we love to look at them 65's Gary

Thanks,
I've got some door panels coming from Year one. My big question is what is the best way to install air on a non air car?

Factory A/C ? best find a doner car, major difference, cowl. Aftermarket? Follow the instructions

If I was going the A/C route, the aftermarket system is what Id use. I dont have a clue who makes it. Google it and see what comes up.

Thanks Mark That 400 looks like a 330 to me. Id check the numbers between the water pump and the intake to be sure its a 400.

Is there a 2 on the corner of the head?

No, I just went back and checked everything out, it has 330 heads assuming the 1 in the corner means that and the base of the intake is only about 8 inches wide so I assume thats a 330. I did check the frame where the control arms are and there are 4 bolt holes for the control arms so I again assume that means it is actually a 442

A 65 442 will have 4V on the cowl tag. If its a Lansing built car. Check your cowl tag and that will tell you for sure what you have.

I seen that, but it doesn't have a bench. It looks to have a set of original buckets for a 65 442. I know there is no way to tell but the interior looks like the factory interior. I guess the hunt for a 455 will start. Wonderful restoration by the way!
