Did some work stripping the old convertible top this weekend. After pulling all the top materials, we removed the top frame, cleaned and stripped it, and repainted it. Then we re-installed the frame and spent some time getting it to line back up. The passenger side hydraulic cylinder has a small leak, so fortunately I have a spare cylinder to replace it with. Back in the late 80's I made the conversion to run transmission fluid in the top's system instead of the original brake fluid. As you can imagine, if you develop a leak with a system running brake fluid in places that can get close to painted surfaces, that's not a good thing.

Your header bow looks good, was it rusted and pitted up like most? Good header bows makes the job much easier. It's getting there.

Yes it had its share of surface rust, a bit of rust scale and a fair bit of pitting.
But not too bad... this was a TX car until I brought it up here in '08, and has been garaged since 1986.

Looks great. Wish I had painted mine before replacing the top. Not going to think about that for awhile. The top replacement took at least 2 days, I must have restapled those strips 8 times before I got all the creases/wrinkles out along the sail area. Hope your installation goes smoother.

Wow! As I look at your 65 convertible I am MORE determine to get mine done too, I also have a 1965 Convertible Cutlass, and I gotta tell you, THESE are one BAD A$$ muscle car!! I cant wait to get this done! Currently, I finally rebuilt the engine (330), i just need to get the timming and get new dual exhaust. Then chrome all the trim and bumpers before paint! again, its all time and $$$.
What color are you going to paint the Cutlass???

New top is relaxing in the sun. Butt shot Tried to install it all myself over a period of three Sunday's... couldn't get it to fit like I wanted. Conceded (not happy about that), and took it to a highly regarded local trim shop. I think they did a great job. Engine bay is close to being completed... Almost ready to drive!

Man, that is truly sweet! I have a real affinity for that Lucerne blue and white top combo. Bot my Cutlass Sports Coupe and the vert have the same combination. GORGEOUS!

Hey, what brake booster are you running? Mine is converted to discs as well, but I have a stock GM booster from the late 60's and the thing is huge and always in the way. I'd love a booster your size.

hey mongoose.....keep an eye out for my engine build thread which i am getting pics together for and will be starting hopefully in the next day or two, but i like your style!! i'm building a 468ci with a massive cam to drop in my 65 this winter. i have a few questions:
1) is that the mondello power steering bracket setup?? and where did you get that upper alternator bracket setup?? no issues with the power steering pump hitting the gear box??
2) what are the specs on the motor? carb size? intake? cam profile? HP?
