they were...................... Absolutely. There were no automatics in 64. And if I'm not mistaken, they were all built in Lansing and no other assembly plants, that one is not a Lansing car.

Strange that all these auto '64 442's are in Wisconsin. Remember the yellow vert that sold on ebay recently for 32K (at least that was the winning bid, no telling if it really sold). I am ordered some 442 emblems for my '64 convertible. I have the dual inlet aircleaner on it already. I am getting another set of boxed lowers and a sway from a parts car so I can call it a 442

I have a copy of the window sticker for that car, no automatic listed on it. 442 option was however. The car appears to be real with the auto added. BTW, who is to say Olds didnt build an automatic 64? Olds would build anything for anybody right? If some big wig wanted an auto 442 for his wife who is to say Olds didnt build it? Or Lansing ran out of 4 speeds and just put a Jetaway in there instead. I may have started another pissing match...............

Nope, I agree, althoough your just trying to start a pissing match, back in the day I could easily see some one higher up getting an auto for his wife instead of the only 4 sp model.

If it was an automatic in 64, then it's not a 442, so there! The autos had a portion of the vin stamped to verify that it came with the car. Piss on......................

Jasen, if you are referring to the window sticker posted with the auction, there was one key piece of information missing from the window sticker.....the VIN. That was conveniently tore or ripped away. A little suspicious if you ask me. Also, the trunk did not have holes for the 442 emblem. I doubt that Lansing placed the emblem and then welded on the inner portion of the trunk lid. I asked the seller for the frame number numerous times with no response.
Just my two cents worth. Not pissing just stating the odd things about the car and the seller.

I didnt notice the VIN was missing, but you are right about the deck lid. For that much coin Id have to inspect the car from every angle. The deck lid emblem was a big red flag though.

Actually, Harley Earl was famous for getting "special" cars made for his wife. So was the cheif engineer or designer of the Corvette.

The weird thing is we know Earl did it, we know Bill Mitchell did it, we know about Pete Estes' 68 Z-28 convertible, we know Wangers had a 421 GTO in the Car and Driver Ferarri test.....because we have seen the cars and know their history from day one. BTW, Can I offically declare this thread the start of the automatic 64 442 rumor??? I know Mike, this board has gone to hell.
