You really didn't think you were NOT going to have to fuck with the trunk pan and the inner wheel housings did you, I mean it's like a right of passage or some shit. Look at the pictures below. Everybody has to do it!!! « Last Edit: Today at 7:41pm by bubbasz1 »
Why speak for your self my rust bucket trunk pan is A ok. And if you believe that I will tell you another one.

Not everyone HAS to do it. The red sled was just fine, still had the factory red paint in the wheel houses. Original pan too.
The coupe.....not so much.

Sounds like the stainless set from M&J are a better fit than the set I got through Mondello ($600). They have a good thick flange, and fit pretty well. Had to put a 3/8" deep flat spot on both the #1 and #6 tubes to clear the frame/cross member. Once installed you can't see any of the dents, but it's still annoying to have to beat up a perfectly new set of headers. I went with the 2 1/2" header back system from Pypes Exhaust. The system I got includes an X-pipe, and legs just past the X with cut-outs if I become so inclined. The materials and weld quality is good in my opinion, but I'm not an expert. I've had a bit of an issue getting the drivers side tail pipe to align properly, but when I take it to the muffler shop to have the joints welded, I'll have them make the final adjustments. www.youtube.com/user/eMongoose1?feature=mhee#p/u/11/iMeFdiE9T3Q

Mongoose you are right on. They tell you this stuff fits after you carve the shit of your parts. Example: on the 64 post, spent well over a grand just on the Hotchkis lower A-arms and QA-1 shocks. Shocks won't fit, then ( QA-1) tells me that you have to expand/grind out the shock holes in the Hotchkis A-arms in order to install QA-1 shocks-BUT THEN THEY will fit. Who wants to spend that kind of $$$ and grind the holes out?? QA-1 should disclose that in the installation. So after some research/called Hotchkis they tell me that they have specially re-tuned Bilstein shocks for the application that will install. That was my choice even though I'm running the QA1's in the rear. If you were running stock A-arms routing out the shock holes I would have no issues with that but? I guess it's a matter of preferrence but still these mfr's should disclose that?

Well my frame is ready to be picked up at the powdercoating shop. I didnt go pick it up today because I am not ready for it, I need to get my trunk pans welded in and I need to get the new cam in, degreed, motor repainted etc. I will try to knock out a lot of work this weekend. Question 1.. I know there are a dozen ways to convert to front discs. The car came with power brakes, I am not and mean NOT an educated person when it comes to mix matching parts to build a brake kit, I do not want to run drop spindles, and I need a brake set up that will not move the wheels outwards. I see some kits space your wheels out slightly. I see kits ranging from 480.00 to 800.00 just for the fronts. I am not going to race or run the car on a course so a good basic kit should work fine as long as I dont have rotor warping issues from being undersized. ANY SUGGESTIONS PLEASE? SUSPENSION.... Obviously I an trying to clear the oversized front wheels, I am going to go to a 225/45/18 front tire that will help, I will also roll the inner fender lip, and run an SPC adjustible upper A arm. Hopefully this will fix my front clearance issue. In the rear I just bought BMI tubular control arms and of course new bushings all the way around. With that being said, the only reason I bought new rears is that the sway bar had actually busted through the lower control arms and was barely hanging on so they needed replaced. I will also be running the hotchkis 2" drop springs. DOES anyone see an issue with this set up? Before anyone answers let me say this. I drove this car a lot this fall, I took it on the blue ridge parkway, with the 18" wheels, sticky nittos, wore out springs that even had helpers, new NAPA cheep shocks, two rear body mounts being held in the trunk by bondo, and the rear sway bar being busted through the control arms ( I didnt know all this at the time) the car impressed me. I will be excited to see Robski's and mongoose's car on the road, with the extremes they have went to they should be hanging with corvettes. Again I want to thank you all for the help, I sure have met some fine folks on here! I am embarrassed to say this but 7 months ago I had never even sat in a 442, now I'm hooked

Mark, I will be heading back to Dallas after 2 today I will call you. Are you going to loose your power brakes with the cam you ordered from CutlassEFI? I'm going to look at electric boosters for my power brake setup. I can also send you info that I collected for my B-spindle disk brake upgrade. That is supposed to take the understeer out of these A-body cars. We shall see.

No drop spindles, no wheel issues, especially with what you plan to run. You can also go the used route and then rebuild and upgrade the old parts. Any setup from a late model A-body will work, so should F-bodies as well (Camaro, Firebird). I have an F-body set up in my 65 from a 68 Firebird.

BIGMIKE that's a great alternative too. In fact Mark, when I rebuilt the front end on my 67 and dropped in the "Bad Boy" I needed a runway to stop this buggy! So I bought a 72 Cutlass front end disk brake set up from a local club member. FYI- I waited a week or so for original rebuilt GM calipers. They had all kinds in stock from their supplier that would have worked but I wanted GM parts. The car stops much much better even with no P/B assist. The " Bad Boy" only pulls 11 inches or so vacuum. Then for the rear keep the drum brakes. Look into or get a hold of www.porterfield-brakes.com give them your size of the rear shoes. Then buy Vista Cruiser rear brake cylinders, they are bigger than what you have. Your buggy will stop. If I would have know sooner about Porterfield I would have not bought a new Moser rear drum set-up.

I had a FANTASTIC night tonight working on the car. Today was my birthday, and I usually do a big blowout, with the smoker and friends, for some reason this year I just stayed in the garage working on the car. I am working on my paint skills, and everything I painted tonight laid down like glass. If I were a painter and said that that it would be bragging, I'm not bragging, I'm amazed and thrilled! Maybe it was a Bday gift, but anything I painted tonight looked like I had been doing it for years! I'll post some pics in a bit! I have to take the motor to the shop at 6 AM and its 12:28 ugh
