i am down to part time right now and things are projected to be very bleak come summer. i dont know how much long i am going to have a job. this is putting the completion of my car in jeapordy as there are absolutely no engineering jobs here anymore, and i may have to move to find work. i am kind of bummed out. i have r code wheels, side scoops, headlight buckets, tail lights with trim, good grill, 442 bucket seat shifter, etc. i dont know what to do.

Oldspeed442 Priority one is you have to have a place to lay your head. Me and my wife are in the same position. I have taken a 10% cut and my wife is working 4 days. Paying the bills are a chore and unemployment would not cut it. We both are tied to the auto business, were I work we had 65 employee's a year ago. We are down to 23, my son was included in the forty no longer working. I will keep my 442 Post until it has to pay the bills, simple as that. As much as I would hate to do it if I had to I would not hesitate to pull the string and let it go. No choice...really.

Oldspeed, What I did when I was hard up for some cash was sold my'seconds' and cashed in around $4k in 2004. It really helped and I was able to pay off my new garage and then some. I kept what I needed to complete my car and I regret selling two parts; a rust free set of doors that looked NOS, and my rear tail panel which I sold to Ram-Z. Hope this helps.

I wouldnt worry about that tail panel piece Nick, it was flattened out a little which made it not fit. Man, its been that long ago? 5 years! Ive sold all my seconds too. All Ive got left is a spare 400, which isnt going anywhere. ;D

The economy is starting to hit up here now...Im in the auto business and on commission in parts sales...taking a huge hit this month... and not looking good down the road... Im lucky in that I also have a pension that I can count on as well..
I have quite a few rare parts with offers to buy some but the car didnt sell so Im in it for the long haul. Gonna hang on to the good stuff as long as I can. If the car goes someday the parts will follow.
As bad as it is getting up here I cant imagine how bad it is for you guys in the eastern states...You guys have been getting screwed by jobs going overseas for years and now the bottom falls out. Lets hope for a quick recovery for all.

I'd almost hate to say it, but if you need cash & want to part with those "R" cdoe wheels, let me know 1st!! Otherwise, don't think anyone can say more than just "hang in there"- thankful I'm not in the situations some of you are! Retired military & just getting ready to retire from a contractor job that's on the german system. Ralph

Ya know I have a brother in Michigan also, he is a retired UAW guy......Tp has met him, we have had some really good conversations about all of this stuff going on with the auto industry. I sure don't want anyone to lose what they have or have worked for. But I still stand by my comments that really "pissed " Jason off. The way the money is coming down from DC just isn't doing the right thing. All this money dished out and the comments here just don't show me that anything has improved. I really do appreciate everyones situation, but maybe it's time to re-think what's going on......hope everyone in the forum here has a great day.

If your referring to bailing out the auto companies, quite frankly that's chump change compared to what they have done for the banks. If they don't bail them out you will see unemployment soar and yes even you retired folks will bear the pain, a lot more than what you do now. I still think it's funny how the southern republican's can bash the hell out of us and still give millions to their Asian brothers in there own states. Anyways it a free country and the economic woes basically has hit everyone so get ready to bend over and kiss what you used to know as a good life good by.

Well I haven't made a decsion what I'm gonna do yet... If I do sell off some stuff you guys will be the first to know. We are all in the auto business here as well.. This entire area was the powdered metal capitol of the world ten years ago. Both my parents work in a factory that was at one time responsible for all of the GM bronze door bushings, zippo lighter cams, GM powdered metal connecting rods, some mopar transmission parts, some ford parts, and lawnmower and washing machine parts. The new owners of the company sold off everithing but some ford parts and Chrysler parts. The rest of the towns factories all automotive related 2. We currently have the Highest unemployment rate in pa at 17%. What I'm saying is, we are all in the same boat.

Actually, I am a Michigan person.....I don't care what the southern Republicans do or what the northern Democrats do....neither are doing what it takes...the fat cats are doing what they have to so they can keep their hands in the till. I just chose to become a full time RV'er. Eight years running ..... I use my '65 442 to Tugg around my 31 foot travel trailer. I have the opportunity to decide where I spend most of my time. All I am saying is that this bailout money...no matter where it has gone it is still not arriving at the "people level" How about giving it to the local agencies so such things as schools can be built..just analyze how fast new jobs would create demand resulting in the flow of money verus sustaining jobs in a carry-over mode. Construction jobs, college educations for the teachers needed to fill the positions, maintenance jobs and all the resulting jobs created that will now allow the products built and sitting in storage fields to be bought? ? Now and only then will the supply and demand be kicked started and the whole auto industry will bennefit. Now all that is happening is just "we have the money, but we have no demand to consume what we have already produced. So if we keep giving it to the banks...nothing is going to change. Nothing would be better than creating a "change" that would allow the consumer to be able to purchase and purchase and spend and spend...I just don't see this being possible with the direction we are going...........that is what I mean by "rethinking" This is just only one of the many different ideas I think should at least be considered......The auto industry and all of its workers and suppliers would be best rescued by a "Huge purchasing demand" versus bailout money that doesn't result in the productions lines producing.
