I've always wondered how these cars were built. Do they cut the frame and remove a section, or is there another way they relocate the rear axle? It would seem that the front axle is fairly straight forward, but I've never done one or seen a chassis close up. But the rear axle has always intrigued me.

Hey Mike. Yeah, you hit the nail on the head. They actually cut a section out and move the rear wheel wells forward. They also move the front wheels forward, and do sheet metal work to make the fenders look right. The goofballs on Muscle Car (On Spike) just did an altered wheelbase Comet, and they showed how they did it. I tried to find the episode on their site, but it don't seem to go that far back. Here is the car complete: Also, here is a Nova someone cut up, and they have ALOT of pics on the project. alteredwheelbasenova.com/
