Just had to show you guys my '65 442 post I bought in early '66. Bought it from a dealer in Wichita, Ks, was their dealer sponsored drag car during the '65 season....held the class record. I owned the car until 72. It had a .060 over 400 motor, 12-1 Venolia pistons, floating wrist pin teflon buttons, stellite valves, Crower hydraulic cam, Spalding Flamethrower dual coil distributor, 750 cfm Holley, headers, 2:20 Muncie 4-speed, Hurst Comp. + shifter, 4:88 posi. Car ran mid-12s. Pistons had .013 clearance, sounded like a diesel running, had to run 50W oil in it, even tried knurling the pistons to take up some of the slack (didn't work for long). During the 7 years I owned it, I put three sets of rings thru it. Loved that car, outran every GTO, including the tri-powers, that I ever raced with it. (Big deal, back "in the day"!) The pic with the other cars was taken at Wichita Raceway in '66.

Thanks, Guys, I don't have any bigger pics of the car....wasn't much into pictures back then...had a bunch of great cars when I was young and don't have a picture of most of them. They were just "ole cars".....I had a '50 Merc tudor, laid on the ground, SBC in it, 154 louvers in the hood, black roll and tuck interior, frenched headlights, '54 Chevy grille, painted midnight blue, and I watched the salvage yard smash it. (I've had some sleepless nights over that one!) The wheels on the 442 were flat spoke chrome mags, but don't remember the brand. When I traded the car in, the dealer allowed me $500 on a new '72 Monte.....the 442, including built motor, mag wheels, headers, 4:88, Hurst, dentless body, perfect interior, all went with it.....but the Monte only cost me $3800.....350/4 barrel, automatic, rally wheels........lost it in the "big giveaway" of '78 when my ex and I went separate ways. Aaaah, ain't life great!

That's just badass... The story, the history, the car, the rims(X2!), everything. Thanks for sharing...
it looks like a true S/S sitting there at Witchita.
