What are the correct clips to use to install new Door Panels on my 442? My old door panels use 6 plastic female grommets in the door frame, and the door panel itself has 6 mating plastic grommets. Is this type original? I see many of the supply houses have metal clips that supposedly slide onto the edge of the door panel. What is the correct or best clips to use for the new PUI door panels I have on order?
By the way, kudos to PUI who will custom make my door panels using the midnight blue carpet I have in my car instead of the light blue carpet they typically come with.

I used the PUI panels in mine. For them to work properly you need to have the original panels spike band put into them or have an upholstery shop put spike clips in them. The original panels used plastic female clips in the doors which accepted the metal spikes in the panel. If you use the clips make sure you put them in the exact spot or they wont hit the door holes. Also if the clips spikes are too long they will blast right thru the plastic grommets, which arent reproduced. I found that out the hard way.

Further on the PUI door panels...I am still in the process of assembling mine...I did the switchover of the tack strips already...not a big deal...how do you secure the new board to the top metal plate...the new board is a little shorter than the original as well

So I received my new door panels today. Like Jason said they are a bit puffier than the originals. Actually a bit more luxurious!
Anyway, they came with the vinyl glued around the edges, something I was not expecting since its been stated here that the spike band from the old door panel needs to be transferred over. Does the old spike band wrap around the edge of the cardboard panel? If so that means you need to undo the vinyl around the edges? It's currently about 18 degrees outside and way too cold to go out and remove the original panels to see.

Yes you have to pull back the vinyl around the edges then reglue once you transfer over the metal band...

When transfering the top metal plate to a new door panel, do you flatten out the sqare shaped stamps that the factory used to attach the plate to the carboard and just glue it, or do you try to press them into the new cardboard panel?

"I have not figured that part out yet, anyone?"
Okay I did one door panel over the weekend. I could not get the square stamps on the top metal plate to properly puncture and grab the new door panel board. I could do it perfectly on the original door panel with a vice grip, but it would not work on the new one. The new boards seem to be a harder material.
In addition, the new door panel is about 3/8 of an inch shorter in height than my original, so the spikes would have been placed very close to the top edge of the new board so it would not have been very sturdy even if I could get it to puncture properly.
What I did do was take a hammer and flatten out all the square spikes so I could use contact cement and have the metal plate sit flat on the new board. This worked perfectly. I was also able to gain back some the 3/8 that I mentioned above. It's still a bit shorter overall, but close enough.
I'm also not using the metal clips they sell you. I transferred the metal spike band from the original. While one of mine was in good shape with all six spikes in tact, the other was missing four of the six spikes, so I will have a friend weld new spikes (ribbed nails I bought at the hardware store that match perfectly) to the band.
I am also missing two of the six plastic female door grommets that are not available anywhere that I know of. A friend of mine has some spare doors and he may have two, but if anyone has two that they do not need let me know.
