So in the 16 years I have my 442, never used the glove box lock other than depressing the lock button to open it. All of a sudden I am unable to depress the lock to open it. It depresses a little, but then stops. It does not pull in the latch at the end of the lock so it can open.
I thought maybe I must have locked it, so tried using the key to open it, but while the key slides in, it won't turn.
What position is the unlocked position (key slot horizontal or vertical)? It is currently horizontal, and I believe it has always been in that position.
If the horizontal position is the unlocked position, how do I get the lock button to depress so it activates the latch? I should note the latch does move freely if I depress it manually.

I went through exactly the same problem. I tried to fix it, cause "I can fix anything", but in the end, I just broke down and bought a new one. Save yourself the grief, it's worth a few bucks for piece of mind. I think I got it from Fusick, but might be wrong. You can have a locksmith re-key it to match your existing car keys.

One more thing: If you can remove your lock cylinder intact, it will work in the new lock body. If you don't have the tool to remove the internal hex nut from the lock housing, just use a bolt with a head that fits, as a tool. Good luck.

When I disassembled the lock it was broken inside so ordered a new one. Thanks for the replies!
