Just dropped the Engine with trans into my 65 Holiday coupe as an assembly. I asked two Gurus from the site whether they had ever done it, answer was no, but I'm stubborn, so I tried.
I found that if you put the rear wheels up on twelve inch high blocks, and fronts on the ground, it will work. If you need the nose lower you can let the air out of the front tires. You have reduce the angle of attack by tilting the car forward. With the cross member pushed back, lift the motor level over the core support, then carefully tilt the back down. The unit will sneak over and slide into the tunnel at a steep angle. Make sure the tail shaft is plugged to avoid an oil spill. I used one of those screw jack engine tilt devices from Harbor Freight to angle the engine. Well worth the money.
Working carefully, alone, took about an hour. It helps to have a floor jack under the trans to lift it slowly to level as the engine crane is lowered. Then slide the cross member back into position.
Hope this info makes someone else's job easier in the future.

I've done lots of installations with engine and trans mated. Do you have an engine tilter? That's the secret.

Yup, couldn't have done it without one, but without raising the back of the car I couldn't get the power train high enough to get enough angle on it. The other thing I did was to make a spreader for the chains on the back of the motor so that they were about 12" apart, and cleared the distributor and coil when the unit was tilted to the max. Mount the chains from the tilter to the spreader, hang the spreader from the tilter. Would have been easier with an overhead chain fall or fork lift. At maximum angle the arm on the portable engine hoist crowds the tilter and the ram hits the motor. All ended well.

You lift the drivetrain over the core support with it horizontal, then start tilting once the tail of the trans is over the opening. In any case, I just saw this photo in an article about Shelby Cobras.
