Has anyone ever done their own alignment? I have a vintage 66 Oldsmobile manual that I bought and it shows you how to do your own, just wondering if anyone attempted with any success. And, if so, did you do it with the engine in or out? Since I'm doing a frame off restoration. I feel I need to ask some of you that have done the same. It seems to me you would want the engine in for weight. Mr.Ramsey???

Never done it myself but there is a good article on diy alignments in this months (Oct.) Car Craft magazine.

You will want to have the engine in. If you get it straight without the engine in, once you add the weight it will change the geometry and you'll have to do it again to get it right. I've done alignments on Corvettes but never an A-body. We also used a fancy laser DIY kit that mounted to the outside lip of the rim, which wasn't all that great in my opinion. I won't tell you that you shouldn't or can't get it right doing it yourself, but I haven't had much luck and would gladly pay an expert to get it right.
