Hey guys, not sure who checks this site anymore…bummer as it has SO much good info.
Here’s the dilemma… I’ve been collecting parts and getting ready to do a frame off for my ‘65 F-85 CC. I have at least one of everything… I picked up a nice rebuilt 65 442 400 that I was planning on dropping into it. The idea isn’t to clone a 442 or anything…it won’t have side scoops or any badges but the originals- But I thought that 442 running gear would be great.
But then I picked up a 442 convertible. A side of my thinks the convertible needs the 400…a side of me says who cares build the car you want. I do have an extra set of VO heads now as well…thoughts?

The convertible needs the 400. The CC needs a bigger motor. ;-)

I promised myself I wouldn’t turn the CC into a race car like my Rallye. Just a cruiser…maybe high 12’s. Plus the 496 in my ‘70 has ripped up that car. I feel like it would twist up the ‘65 pretty quick. (But the fact that it’s probably 500lbs lighter makes me want to drop it in and make at least one pass!) -peter

I was thinking more along the lines of a 455. It doesn't need to be crazy.

There's a fresh rebuild high performance 455 on the site, $2,000.00. look under parts for sale. I would go that route with the Sport Coupe.

Ok, ok…455 it is. Can I at least paint it bronze? And yes, the car SHOULD be done already. Racing the 70 and lack of garage space have really hurt any progress on this car. But the time IS coming soon. I just ordered the door panels from SMS AND got the rear seat covers I needed to do the upholstery work. Chrome will go out in the next month and the tear down will begin soon.
Islandcruiser…I’ really not fond of buying other peoples engines but at that price, it may be worth checking out.
Thanks guys. -p

Heck, paint it gold and tell people it's a 330.

I have a few can of early Toronado blue that I was originally planning on using. Thought it would go nicely with the car. Then I got bit by the 400 bug. -peter

Tell us you're definitely painting it bronze, and that will be good for at least a month's debate on which bronze to use. :-). If you absolutely can't live without a period correct Jetaway, I've got one, complete from tranny to radiator and everything in between. Good luck with the project.

For the trans I have a solid plan. The CC is getting a TH400 with a GV unit, the 442 will get one of my friends 200-4R. They'll both give me a little more cruis-ability and allow for deeper gears.

I've never had a Gear Venders unit, but from what I've heard, you can't go wrong with them. I'm realistic about my Jetaway. Even the Smithsonian doesn't want it for free.

Yeah, the Jetaway is not my fav. I had the GV unit in my 70 behind a 496. It was great when I had a track 30 miles away. I could drive down and race all day. Now the track is 90 miles away and I just trailer it. Plus...it does rob power.
So the GV will go in another car. -peter
