Ok not to drag on this tripower but,how important is it that the cross over ports are open mine are stuck shut and can't move them ,so I would just assume leave them shut I'm in CA so I doesn't get that cold what do you think

If you’re not going to go racing then you’re better off leaving them open. Warm up will be quicker and everyday driveability and gas mileage will be better. Their purpose is explained in the Olds info I included earlier including the PCV.
If you're not certain of what you're doing, then I strongly recommend you find someone to set up your carbs who knows what they’re doing and how they work. The center one does all the work for your everyday driving. It is just like a typical 2 bbl. The end ones are not your typical 2 bbl and cut in only when you get on it a bit or at full throttle. They don't have idle circuits or choke. This too is explained in the Olds info I gave you earlier and how to adjust the cut in point. I've seen "geniuses" use three center carbs and have a nightmare on their hands.
You have to know what you’re doing when you set up the carbs and the adjustments. This is all in the Olds info. I know of 2 instances where there were carb fires because they were not set up correctly and they were the correct carbs. Mine have been totally trouble free for 25,000 miles so far and a "rocket" blast to drive.

Its not that I don't know how to set up the carbs, its I don't know what to do with the cross overs because there frozen on with age or rust. I don't want to beat on them to hard and brake them i've tried heat and fluids ,that being said I'm thinking of leaving them closed because I'm assuming that that cast iron manifold is going to get hot and operate the choke,I don't know but I'm thinking thats all that is really affecting.I've also looked at a lot of them on line and its 50/50 on open and closed

i would leave them alone, those tiny bolts will probably break also.you are probably not putting on tri-carbs for better fuel economy anyway plus you are in cal.my .02 jc

Update, got the cross overs open (had to break the flaps off) thats ok I'm going to leave them open anyway, didn't want to run it with them shut.Good thing I opened them it was a mess in there rust and crap, got them all cleaned out and lucky for me nothing rotted through still lots of iron left.

Now that I think about Jim I remember someone is reproducing those crossover cutoffs. I think I saw them on ebay a couple years ago. Try a search. They looked pretty accurate too.

Jim: I found the post for the crossover block off plugs on eBay. See attached. I purchased them a while back. Seem to be of good quality. Also, I had the same problem with my tri-carb intake as you. I took it to a machine shop and had them mill-off the bolt heads. We were then able to get the crossover blocks and bolts out. I was then able to re-tap the bolt holes, and install the new crossover blocks and bolts. One thought I had, was if these new crossover blocks should be coated with something? High heat paint? Ceramic coated like headers? Attachments:

Don't know if anyone knows or not, seems I have to run a bit advanced on timing to keep it from popping through front and rear carbs, does that sound normal it seems to run fine
