Who makes a good affordable replacement fuel tank for my 65 442 conv., and did any of them have return lines back to the tank?

No they all did not come with return lines. The aftermarket tanks not only dont have filler pipes they dont have the coiled vent tube in the inside top of the tank either. If your tank is still intact, you can have it redone by pros that take it completely apart and epoxy coat the inside, repair everything and send it back to you like new. Only a little more than after market. The Chinese are making enough money from wallmart anyway.

Who makes a good affordable replacement fuel tank for my 65 442 conv., and did any of them have return lines back to the tank? As has been stated, any tank you will find you will have to reuse your filler neck off your old tank. There is no manufacturer that I'm aware of that sells a new tank with a filler neck for a 65. The Parts Place has them at a pretty good price; $179.00. Here is the link to their online catalog for the 65 442; www.thepartsplaceinc.com/ocatalog/part.asp?VID=4&YearList=1965You will have to use the drop down box (or in this case a pop up box) to get to the fuel section. I would also check your local ReNu shop/dealer, the one in my area quoted me a price of $185.00. That's not too bad considering the shipping of a tank to me from one of the resto-warehouses would be more than $6.00. And yes, there are return lines on some cars. My vert has a return line, but I believe all 442's have them, but I'm not going to swear on that one. New sending units with return lines are available and are listed on the same page as the gas tanks.

Hey Big Mike, That's a great parts source. I hadn't heard about that one before.
That would be a good addition to the forum. A section listing links and/or contact info for good parts sources.

My 65 442 doesn't have return lines, the 65 Vista Cruiser, Cutlass and F-85 I had didn't have return lines either. The 65 Chevy Malibu didn't have return lines either. I've never seen return lines in a 65. The 67 Firebird didn't have return lines. The 68 Chevelle 396 didn't have return lines. The 1973 Chevy K20 4x4 didn't have return lines.

Who makes a good affordable replacement fuel tank for my 65 442 conv., and did any of them have return lines back to the tank? A/C cars were the only ones to have a return line to the tank.

I'll check my Cutlass vert when I start taking it apart as it is an A/C car as well.

Now that is interesting. The A/C cars have the return line, I wonder why?
Learn something new today. Jmorris, thanks for throwing in the pic.
