Ok did a search and didn't see any results...hope someone has an answer
Have a couple of 65's that are stored in temporary garages so they are at least covered...my problem is that living in the west we get a lot of Black widow spiders...they like my cars unfortunately...was working on the vert. power steering pump the other day and there dangling by my leg was a nice big fat Black widow...I hate those things...I realize this is a bit of a bizarre subject but someone out there must have had the same or similar problem and come up with a solution that actually works...heard of dryer sheets for mice...citrus and peppermint oils and moth balls...anything actually work short of spraying the whole car with raid???

Nah...I'm a fair weather weenie...had enough cold weather and no see ums in Alaska....I just hate sticking my hand where I can't see to unbolt something and putting my hand into a nice web with a big fat Black widow in it...gotta be something that will keep them buggers away... Standing joke with my mechanic is that if I bring the car out to him for something I can't fix I need to bring a couple of cans of Raid with me...while back he had it on a rack, came to work on it it the morning and there were several webs from the bottom of the car to the floor and his roll away...he can deal with an occasional rattle snake getting into his shop but he is not a great fan of spiders...

At the risk of being called "Captain Obvious", here's my hint: Spend a buck, call a pro exterminator, and enjoy your cars. The problem is starting in your garage, spreading to your cars. Good luck!

I've thought about the exterminator end of it and if I ever get a permanent structure built to house the cars I will definitely pursue that possibility...one of my other cars resides in the attached garage to my house and I haven't had problems with it...the problem is with the temporary shelter/garages I have for the other two...cars are out of the weather but the shelters just seem to attract these nasty little buggers...guess I could try the peppermint oil and see if that has any affect, if nothing else the car would smell good...with my luck it will probably attract something else...

Why not buy a couple of the disposable plastic car covers or tents (even plastic sheeting).....cover the car throw in a couple flee bombs or bug bombs (cans) before you work on it and everything should be dead under the tent or cover? Do it once on month using the same tent/bomb method. Like war its all about attrition. Eventually the enemy runs out of troops!

Actually, family rides has a great idea. I have actually set off flea bombs inside a car and closed the door to kill ants and roaches, used to do it all the time when a nasty car came into our body shop for repairs, but I'm not sure they kill spiders. Maybe call the "800" number on the flea bomb can, and ask the manufacturer if they kill spiders? But, got to tell you, I bought an old house to renovate five years ago that had more critters in it than the city zoo, and I called a professional d in who, to use his term, "nuked it. We had to stay out of it for 24 hours, the body count was horrendous, from rats to termites, and we haven't seen a bug in five years. He said the stuff he sprayed would kill anything with 2,4,6,or 8 legs! We live two blocks from the gulf and it is swampy here! Worth every penny I paid him to have peace of mind.

I second Familyrides suggestion. I use it to kill wasp nests in the cars when they are stored outside, works great.

I have used the bug bombs in the house before for flee infestations when we had inside outside pets...worked good for that...my temporary garage slash shelters are actually 10x20 foot totally enclosed tents except the floor...I suppose I could put plastic on the floor and go up the sides to cover any possible cracks and set off one or two of those bombs in each tent...I've heard that Raid makes one that doesn't leave any residue...worth a try I guess...I hate those flippen spiders....

I've heard of people who got so frustrated that they burned down a building to end infestations...............before you resort to that, let some of us who like spiders buy your cars................ Good luck with your fight!
