Have a question about mechanical fuel pump install...bought it from Fusick...supposed to be the right one for a non AC 65 400, service manual shows it with the inlet and outlet on top with lever pointing up...lubricated the lever, turned the engine over by hand to TDC and the pump slide right in with no resistance at all which seems a little odd...thought that there would be some resistance form the eccentric.....did I miss something or do I have it installed incorrectly?...looks the same as the one in the photos Sascha shows in the thread "Fuel Pump Rec."...if you turn it over and install the fuel lines are up against the block... Have not turned the engine over yet as wanted to hear from someone, also installing a new water pump...
Any help would be appreciated...
Thanks,
DY

You should be good to go. I don't remember exactly how the eccentric is located in relation to tdc but mine slid in with no resistance as well. I didn't rotate the crank when I installed.

Thanks for the reply...it certainly is reassuring to hear from someone with prior experience...
Thanks again...

Unlike a Chevy, when the no 1 cylinder of an Olds is at TDC on compression, the timing gear marks are at 12-12 (not 6-12). When the Olds cam gear is at 12:00, the eccentric is at the low point as far as the fuel pump is concerned, thus minimal insertion force on the pump is required.

Thanks Joe,
Thanks for the explanation...after TDC I had tried to feel the location of the eccentric before installing the pump and could feel nothing...installed the pump with no effort at all...seemed to easy so just wanted to be sure I didn't mess it up somehow..
Thanks again..
