Gaskets have really changed over my 35 yrs on this globe, more than ever. Why is it that you buy a gasket thay cant print on the box or bag, "This gasket requires sealant" on one side or both. Ex: I purchased a new oil filter adaptor gasket, felpro 9948, no instuctions for use, which side faces what, sealant or no sealant.. Used google and youtube no dice. Have you guys ever ran into this issue??

The Chassis Service Manual tells you which gaskets need sealer. Primarily, the metal intake gasket is the only one.

Really joe. The first gasket i bought was thick blue board, no issues used rtv both sides. This new gasket is of thicker semi metal however flexable. No rtv but it dosent state that. Both gaskets were made by felpro.

Both gaskets were made by felpro. I've installed both the paper and the metal core gaskets for the oil filter adapter dry with no issues. The only thing I will sometimes use is Hi-Tack just to stick the gasket in place to make installation easier (especially on flexible gaskets like the water pump and trans pan). Of course, the Hi-Tack makes cleanup more difficult next time...
