declaring it a 350 just by seeing the carb isnt very definitive either. ;D ;D

declaring it a 350 just by seeing the carb isnt very definitive either. ;D Point taken, well said. But usually people swapping out engines dont swap intakes with stock intakes. Like I said, the only way to know for sure what engine is in there is to have all the casting info off the block and heads. Chances are though that the original 442-330 is long gone. There were so few of those early 442's and they were dragged to death and big blocks dropped in that more than likely its gone. Has anybody gone to see this one yet?

It looks like there is a square flange to qjet adapter between the carb and intake. And him talking about the G code, would be the engine number on the head, they started with "T" had some numbers in between and ended with a letter, in his case a "G". I'd guess it's either the original engine or he restamped it. It also looks like it still has #1 heads and the driver side wp.

I am inspecting it tomorrow, and I think it will likely be rusty. My little brother 65rustbucket will bring his brainpower and we'll see if it is the real thing. I hope it is, and I can't wait to see the air cleaner. I like the way they look!

Well for your sake I hope it is and good luck. What a bargain if it is a real 442 even if it has some rout.

Hope it's legit and you get a good deal. If I had the extra $$$, I'd do the same. Heck I drove to southern CO for my 64 Cutlass, what's a little further for a 442 ;D

I finally checked it out last night, and yes it is the real thing. Wow! It has the correct frame, gussets, welds, holes, '64 specific boxed lower control arms, the correct motor (and yes, it is a spread bore adapter that holds that Quadrajet on...good eye you guys!), the original shifter, correct rear end, correct stamped holes in trunk (trim access), correct cowl tag (manual trans code) and the original air cleaner (stripped and painted black). It was amazing to see the good, but also troubling to see the bad. It has usual rust areas, but also is packing it's generous share of imperfect patch panels and slide hammer holes, all masked with lots of filler. And the front passenger fender has its share of damage hidden by old Bondo, with rust showing under the cracking filler. It also has a homemade trunk pan and homemade rear window channel strip. I can handle all of these, but I am finally starting to realize why the cars with their original faded paint jobs go for the big bucks. On those, you can see up front what exactly needs to be done. I noticed all that I could on this '64, but it will still have surprises for me as I tear into the body. The trim holes for the little meek 442 emblems are factory, and it has that historic mystique that these old clunkers reek of... So, even though it is a serious body project, it runs good, is the real deal, and I decided to buy it. I pick it up Saturday morning and the owner generously allowed me to pay a lower offer. I will get some photos posted likely tomorrow evening. Man, I sure like the way the '64 looks, and thanks for the kind input from you guys!

Well, sounds pretty good if you ask me, a fender with bondo, you can find a fender in good condition no problem. The most important stuff it sounds like it still has and that is what counts.

Sounds like a huge score Cliff. Id like to add a 64 442 to my website, you know document the things that make it a 442. When you get it do you mind taking pics of all the good stuff? Ill give you credit on the site.
Sounds like you may have bought the air cleaner and got the car for free. 64 442 air cleaners bring big bucks.

Ouch! BR[] has caught me red handed...but hey, at least it not a post coupe-we agree on that don't we? Ha ha ha. The pictures I'm showing are very crappy, but I am out of energy for today! The car is going to definitely need a body-off job and I am going to be searching for a fender, hood, and anything else that I can find. Thanks to 65rustbucket, I was able to get two complete 1/4 panels for free from his parts car we picked up down by St. George, Utah. And he was the one who covered this car inside and out with a fine toothed comb, noticing all the correct components, etc. He remembers the great wealth of info from BR[] and RAMZ's sites like a computer does. Thanks for the kind words about the car...I all ready have a little buyer's remorse, knowing I need to start finding parts (or a parts car!) but you guys have helped me remember how cool of an opportunity it was to find a real '64 442. And yes, I must admit, I am happy to be in the 64B09 club! The air cleaner is in decent shape, just totally repainted. I wish it still showed the old patina and the 442 script.
