Does anyone do any oil restricting on their engine rebuilds? I looked for a kit but don't see one for the olds 400 like I have. I did the rear main modiffication(where the oil pump connects to the main cap) but I thought keeping more oil at the bottom end would be good. Any other good rebuild advice, thanks.

Joe Mondello has a kit at this location: www.mondellotwister.com/OilingSystem.htmThe 455 block in my 65 442 had the restrictors already installed when I got it. After building the engine, at idle my gauge says about 15 lbs with 10W40 oil. I think it's too low, but I never check my gauge accuracy.

I put restrictors in my engine, have not brought it to life yet so don't know what will happen, I just used the restrictors going from the mains to the cam bearing's to keep some of the oil down below.

I've used Restrictors in my last three 455's. I have had the same 15 or so lbs at idle (after engine is warm), but never had any reliability issues. If you are concerned about this, you might want to check your Bearing clearances. Loose will give you a lower psi, tight will raise your psi; however, if your are racing this engine, you definitely DON'T want them tight...
The general rule is, you need 10lbs of pressure for every 1000rpm. So at Idle, I wouldn't worry.
I also use Restrictor Push Rods and at highway speed, I have roughly 60 to 80lbs of pressure... The Restrictors and Push Rods I use are both Mondello...

I will be rebuilding my 455 this winter if all goes well and hope to do something better this time.
