Looked like a real nice piece for a nice piece of change. Does anyone know what it cost to rechrome one of these?

Looked like a real nice piece for a nice piece of change. Does anyone know what it cost to rechrome one of these? No, there is a thread on this subject on the forum, but the consensus is that it all depends on the condition of the piece being done and whether you can find a plater that can do the piece correctly. From previous discussions, no one here has been able to find a plater that will redo the piece without painting the raised roughed up area on the panels. We all know that paint aint original and kind of tacky in my opinion, but it does get the job done. I got a phone estimate without sending the piece in for an estimate at $800 to $1200 depending on condition. At the time I did not ask how they were going to handle the raised areas, now I know to ask! I do know that Bill at Originality Plus comes up with some unreal NOS parts and great used parts like the Cutlass tailpanel. Some of his pricing is in the stratosphere, but he loses nothing by starting out high as he can always come down on the price. Some folks in the Olds community have a real problem with his pricing, but I can tell you from experience that his descriptions are very accurate, he backs up what he sells and he sells a good amount of 65 442/Cutlass parts. About 3 maybe 4 years ago he was selling a rechromed 442 tail panel and I did not bid on it because I figured that it would sell way over what I wanted to pay and it sold for under $800. I’ve actually been meaning to call him to ask him what chrome he used to redo the piece.

Ive seen TPs panel that he had redone locally here in Detroit. They rechromed it then slightly dusted it with low PSI media and it looks awesome. I think there is a pic on here somewhere.
Originality Plus got me on a rechromed hood lip. Piece was said to have been mint but was pitted and had sanding marks in it and he wouldnt give me a refund. Just my experience, not indicitive of what others have experienced.
Buying chrome off eBay is a crap shoot, sometimes you get lucky but usually its for sale for a reason.
