Congrats Brian! We all knew you could it! Video? Please?
Anyway, excuse my inexperience with Lyle, but he seems to be a good source for 4 speed setups...correct? If so, I am planning on doing a 4 speed swap in my '65 Cutlass that currently has a column shifted Jetaway. Would he be a good source for all/most of the parts I would need?
Thanks!

Finally got to here the new 400 roar! What a thrill it always is. Cranked over a couple times, pumped the holley and fired right off. Ran like a champ. was obvious I had the timing set pretty close as it didnt hickup, backfire and purred nicely. Almost as if I knew what I was doing. I did say almost Cant tell ya what happened from there and Bubba has sworn an oath not to say anything . However, I need a replacement radiator so headed to see Croc442 (Lyle) later this week . Oh and (hint hint) I also know there's nothing wrong with my tranny, thank god for the safety kill switch I wired to the coil Hmmmmm..... that's a dead give away....... PS, of coarse I got it on tape too.............. Patiently waiting for the video.

Was talking to him yesterday and complete setup for one of the 700's probably around 3500.00. Believe it would include everything including driveshaft, shifter linkage, shifter, etc. Doesnt include the clutch pack and something else small...... Im gettin old so memory fails. I'll get more info when im there but sounds compelling to me.

He says he's retired but from the sounds of it he's got more in the works now than he did when he ran his business. He owned a trans shop and has an answer to any transmission issue you might have, sharp as a knife when it comes to drivetrain issues. The kiesler has no shift linkage, shifter bolts on the top of the trans, location for the shifter can move to 16 different locations so if it doesn't fit your hole in the floor something is amiss. Comes with everything except clutch goodies. Has a internal reverse light switch and pigtail, just need to wire it in. After you get it all installed and measure for a driveshaft, call in the measurements they will send you a shaft with a new yoke and u joints made to your measurements.

You guys are killing me with all this talk of swapping to a manual trans. I've contemplated that ever since I bought my '65 back in 1985.
In addition to the stuff Bubba mentioned above, I assume I'd have to source the clutch linkage separately? Any ever tried/considered a hydraulic clutch setup? Seems like that would alleviate the Z-Bar issues around headers, and allow one to run a higher pressure plate without growing a huge left thigh.
And I'd also have to find a center console for a manual setup... I like the look with the console better than without. So the cost of conversion keeps going up. Still... it'd be freakin' sweet!

Sounds like it will be costly and a little involved. Do I just keep the Cutlass as is and look for a 64/65 4 speed 442 and be done with it? I think I know how most of you guys would answer that question! Brian...I apologize because I think I'm guilty of highjacking this thread on you!

A while back I picked up everything needed for a 4speed swap (M20, bellhousing, fork, pedals, z-bar, all nut, bolts, rods, springs, firewall plate, boots, drive shaft, 4spd radiator for A/C, floor pan cutout, hurst linkage with shifter, pressure plate, clutch, starter....you name it I got it) for less than $800. Lucky to say the least but these cars are out there sitting in fields waiting for the right person to find them. Opened up the M20 and it looks brand new inside and shifts through all gears flawlessly.

Youre pretty good at detective work in my defense I checked the tranny lever position several times to be sure it was in park. However, what I forgot is park isnt forward on the tranny! When the linkage is installed is all the back . Oh and of coarse the tranny fluid didnt pump in until I had it at 2000 RPMs. Leaves kinda fast at that speed Glad I took the precautions I did or couldve been worse. Rad can be recored (again)......

So whos skid marks were bigger, yours or the car? Funny, I stayed pretty calm which was good. Well for everyones amusement here ya go...... I think we should all focus on how nice the motor sounds, how quickly and easily it started and not the end result Yes, and I know the initial small movement should have been a dead give away but it settled in which perplexed me momentarily. And yes I just finished setting the idle screw to get the cam burned in. I'm still pretty quick for 50 ;D Anyway everyone that knows me understands I will embarass myself to help someone down the line. It's actually kinda funny today but not so much yesterday....... Ya gotta laugh and feel free to..... Just click the picture and turn up the sound and have a laugh on me. I am

Absolutely PRICELESS !!! Laughed so hard, couldn`t help it ! No need to feel embarrassed. If I had all my screw ups on video, it would make for a full length film. Does sound good. Hope there wasn`t too much damage. Takes a lotta balls to post something like that. My hat off to you

Absolutely calm as a bitch under pressure, didn't hear any cursing, not a sound(other than the radiator/ fan clearances getting to close). After talking to you I had this picture in my mind.

People ask me all the time, why I work by myself. I don't own a video camera either. Hope it's not bent too bad.

Car is absolutely perfect except for the radiator hitting the fan. the only thing in front of the car was my engine crane and that's the noise you hear. Stan, you're right no transformers in my way unlike another who pulled the same trick . Jeff, 20 feet or so and it would have launched off a 4' retaining wall. Kinda like that! That wouldnt have been much fun. Post, glad you got a chuckle as the more I watch it the funnier it gets..... Ya cant teach stupid, its an art form

I have to ask, in the vid., as the car drives off, on the garage floor, is that the brake pedal I see? And to be clear ! I was not laughing AT YOU ! But after it`s all over and done, no one hurt, no major damage. Damn, that was a hoot. Your first ride was hanging on to the "A" pillar.
