Does anyone have dimensions and/or pictures of the wire/rods that slip into the seat cover pockets that you attach the hog rings to?
The "professional shop" that I had install new cushions and covers back in the early 90's mistakenly threw away the rods with the old covers, assuming new rods would come with the new covers. He cut some 3/16" rod to use in their place... leaving very jagged edges, which allowed the rod to cut it's way through the pocket and vinyl. He also didn't place any burlap over the seat springs, which allowed the springs to cut into the cushions.
So I'm getting new cushions and covers and starting over.

you can use coat hangers. Just cut to size, if you want you can bend the ends over into a loop. I used them on mine and it worked fine. Gary

I used coat hangers as well and bent the ends to prevent puncture. Skip the burlap, just use a thick vinyl over the seat springs. I have all the wires for my '64 442 back in wisconsin, I can measure them but it won't be until sometime in July. let me know if it can wait that long. You shouldn't need exact measurements, just cut them a little short to avoid puncture.

I`m not sure if this will be of any help. The 4dr bench seat car I parted has several feet of this rod. I don`t know the lengths your looking for, but I`ll remove the rods, your welcome to them, the rides on you.

Thanks! I don't know the length I need either... I'm just trying to get an understanding of the gauge of what was there originally. Sounds like the 3/16" rod the guy used was WAY overkill... and leaving rough edges on the rods merely made it only a matter of time before they cut through the pockets and the seat cover material. Sounds like the material doesn't have to be too stiff, since a couple of you resorted to using coat hangers.
I'm guessing that there would be 4 "rods" per bucket seat. Postcar, you think you have enough from the car you've parted to take care of both front buckets? If so, I got ahead and take them off your hands. I plan to get around to redoing the seats in the next month or so.
I suppose I could reuse the heavier rod, and just get some 3/16" vacuum caps to cover the ends so they won't be likely to cut through the pockets and vinyl. Of course the rod is likely to be a lot heavier than original or the coat hangers, which could force it down in the pockets... eventually pushing through.

Here`s what came out of the 4dr. Both front and rear. Two different types were used. The bare steel ribbed was used under the seat forward on the front seat bottom, and rearward on the rear seat bottom, hog ringed to the frame. The paper covered wire was used in the piping, and on the sides hog ringed to the frame. There`s APPROX. 4pcs @ 70" paper wrapped. 2 of these pieces are in piping and would have to be stripped out, like you would electrical wire from it`s sheathing. But don`t just grab and try pulling the two apart, it ends up looking like curly fries from Arbys. 2pcs 22" long paper wrapped 3pcs 52" long ribbed 1pc 40" long ribbed These are kinda measurements If you can use this stuff just shoot me your address, PM Please

If the sizes are all you need. Again these are approx., and the paper wrapped wire varies in O.D.
Paper wrapped. 5/32- inside wire 5/64
Ribbed rod. 1/8
