I'm thinking the 442 is getting close to complete. I have the original Muncie 4 speed (rebuilt). With a 3.90 rear the motor will really be turning up the RPMs. I want this to be fun to drive and not so noisy (from RPM) that I only take local short trips. What have you guys done to solve this issue?
The Gear Vendors solution is good but I would like cruise RPM in the 1,900-2,200 RPM even at 70 MPH. So I would need more overdrive, at least .7 or lower. Thoughts?
It's that slippery slope when I think of updating the car. I did go for front disc brakes and dual master cylinder. Along with factory air conditioning. The cam is a JM-20-22, fairly close to stock performance, I think. I'm looking at the Keisler TM 600 as an alternate.
I do not want to cut up the trans tunnel or lose my manual console.

youll have to cut the hump for any tremec/richmond 5 speed. they make offset shifters for the stock console though.
there is a kit out there that turns a muncie 4 speed into a 3 speed with od. 3rd becomes overdrive and 4th becomes 3rd gear. you will have to flip the 3rd-4th lever upside and re-run your linkage. the only bad thing about this is you get a big gap between 2nd and 3rd.
i am going with a tko600 5 speed in mine, but i dont have a console and i have to make a hump for it.
