Anybody have pictures of a '65 with a straight front axle? I think I might be considering this as a summer project? Maxx Tugg

I don't know Max, I think you will loose a lot of your drivability with a straight axle.

Going for the gasser look. If it's what you want, then do it, and we'll watch the progress. I am too afraid of doing something that extreme to a 442, but at the same time you might be able to make a cool looking, vintage (late '60s) gasser. I could see an F-85 with some simple, yet neat, pinstriped logos on the side, and plain steel black wheels on the back sporting wide tires. Then some small Astro-style wheels up front with no center caps, covered with Firestone Wide Ovals.
Now I also think some of us might weep at the pain we feel when a cool old car gets hot rodded...but I think you will come up with something unique and tasteful.

I think I have seen some GTOs done with the straight axle.

Don't have to worry about the headers getting smashed with a straight axle, I really wonder what it's like to drive on the street.

I'm inclinde to believe it should drive like a go-kart. Body leveling should be very easy and ground clearance attained should be a plus.........just considering another approach to a distinctive look. The leaf spring conversion I did really changed the the feel and the looks of my '65. I have never had anyone say"are those springs original?" If done right I feel any modification is a plus. Only change I will follow up on is to box the frame so the springs go inside instead of having an external mount. Included will be roller slides instead of "shackles", those look great and stabilize like crazy. Maxx Tugg '65 442 Holiday Coupe I need to learn how to attach pictures.

Maxx Tugg '65 442 Holiday Coupe I need to learn how to attach pictures.
Go to the 442 Lounge, I put step by step instructions on "How To Upload Your Photos" there.

I think you meant to say handle like a monster truck. The high center of gravity plus the small tires on the front would make it turn like a go-kart with 3 wheels. Straight axle cars were meant to turn once, at the end of the strip.

Thanks for the info, looks like something I could do in the driveway. Not looking to raise the front very much, about 2 inches is all. I remember a friend of mine in California had a '57 ford fairlane, called it Black Sabbath because it took al of his money and every sunday to put it together. It had a straight axle and drove real fine......even with the monster motor he had. I'll be reading and researching this "little" project.
Having fun Maxx Tugg('65 442 Holiday Coupe) one of a kind Drives great .....pulls strong

If you just want to raise two inches why not some different coil springs? Or some ball joint spacers.

It's all about being different, appearance changes should include the Chassis also. Coil springs and spacers would just make it look elongated and not "specialized".
