Speaking of red lines, look where the line was on these original Firestones. People scuffing the tires on curbs made them move the line inward towards the wheel. 65 redlines were in the outward location too. I never saw red lines that looked like that.............. EVER!

I don`t know, the ones on the olds appear to be on the tread side of the crown of the sidewall, on the pontiac they look like there on the bead side of the crown. The olds red line is more right under the us royal trademark that shows up on the pontiac pic. Might be an optical illusion, but whatever.

That's a late '65 plate, my '66 has the first 3 of RVS and my buddies '65 is NOA. Oh, as for Mom, if it was mine, she would tell them to dial it up!! Of course, she bought a '67 GTO new, the first non Chevy since she got out of drag racing, she got it after my older brother was born since the '65 Vette wasn't family friendly......

I've done quite a bit of research on CA plates that would be correct for a 65, since I have a Fremont car that came with a CA black plate. I also belonged to the national license plate collectors group for many years before buying my 442 as I collect plates. Here is what the ALPCA historian says about getting a period correct plate. This applies to CA plates only; Hi Mike:
In 1965- we were in the middle of the alphabet on those 1963 baseplates- and they were issued alphabetically. In 1963-64, we issued from initial letter A thru about N or O- half the alphabet. Your ZFS series is very late- and was issued around 1970.
As many car owners do, you want a legitimate series that could have been assigned to the car at the time. You'd need anything before letter R- there are no lists from the state regarding this, but that fits our working list of numbers.
You could even get an early letter like A- that could have sat in an office until 1965 and been issued- but the actual letters for 1965 include P-Q-R as the initial letter of the 3 letters. Anything before R is good, unfortunately, anything later is impossible!
Check eBay- and good luck!
Jeff Minard ALPCA license plate historianThe first line of the 3rd paragraph is key, someone could have received an earlier sequence plate if one had been sitting in a DMV office somewhere. Or someone could have a latter sequence plate if they brought their car into CA from another state say in late 67 or later.

My '66 and my buddies' red '65 BOTH were built in Fremont AND came from the same dealer, Century Olds in Van Nuys and since it's in Los Angeles, I'm sure back then, as like today, DMV's were always busy so I don't think any plates sat around for very long, lol! My '66 is an early run, it has a weird headliner design, not the normal ear muff like usual and the last 6 of the vin is 112687

My red car was built in March and has its original black plate with orange 1965 sticker on it. Plate reads NHA 259.
