What is the cure for 4 speed shifter handle vibration @ 55-70MPH?. Everything is new. If I lightly rest my palm over the shift knob the noise and vibration stop. I have had the same issue with other 65 Olds 4 speeds. Could it be the shift stops?

WAY BACK IN 65, WHEN I HAD MY 442, I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. I REPLACED THE FAKE HURST SHIFTER WITH A REAL COMP. PLUS UNIT FROM HURST. FIXED IT----AND I COULD HIT ALL 4 GEARS. NO MORE SYNCRO PROBLEMS.

I had the same in my 4 speed '65 back in '69...cured my vibrations by wrapping my gun belt around it, still shifted just fine. Added a little character to the interior...yes it did.

I read somewhere, yes it's alzhiemers, that it can be cured by simply unbolting the drive shaft and rotating it 180 degrees. It's worth a try. Mine also did the same thing back in the 60's.

the stock shifter in mine was like trying to shift a wet spaghetti noodle... nothing compares to the hurst comp plus linkage and gate. if you want to upgrade to a comp plus linkage and still have the original 442 shifter, they make a mount that fits into the hurst gate, and then you bolt your stock shifter to that. might be worth a look, although i dont know who makes it. i am sure someone on her does.

Turn the radio up you won't hear the vibration, and keep your hands on the wheel, at the 2 and 10 position, and you won't feel the vibration.
