I was just getting ready to make my jig for the battery hold down bracket and I figured I'd poll what width batteries we are running. I don't know what stock is supposed to be, mine is 6.750 wide and my stock bracket fits it nicely. That's what I was going to set the jig up for but figured I'd ask before I started welding up brackets.

Too late, you guys aren't fast enough when I have the itch to do something. First prototype is 7.125, with the dipping on it I would think it will be Ok.

Will that battery fit in the tray?
The problem I see is with the height of the batteries. The hook end is where the adjustment is needed.

That battery is out of mine and the original clamp I have fits, I'm just going for width, if a battery that someone has is taller than stock then they might have to custom bend the z part of the bracket for the hold down to fit.

I have the same Sears battery as the pic. Let me know when you have the clamps for sale.

However, I've always used a group 24 in my A-bodies. Here is a link to a battery chart that lists all types and sizes; www.gglotus.org/ggtech/battery-bci/battery-bci-size.htm Other batteries will fit, if I recall correctly a group 27 is about as big of a battery to use. A 27 is hard to get in, but it will squeeze in there. Then some of the 70 through 80 series will also fit.

Basically it was the width i was worried about, for height you can always adjust the bends on the arm that latches on the core support. It's being made to the original Heavy duty battery tie down I have, it's just with all the rubber coating on it the width was hard to measure without ruining the original.
