I SENT MY CARB TO SPARKY'S AND STILL HAVE TROUBLE WITH IT WHEN IT CAME BACK. I KNOW THIS BECAUSE WHEN I EXCHANGE IT WITH A REGULAR 4GC WITHOUT THE PLUGS FOR THE JETS IN FRONT. THEN EVERYTHING WORKS FINE. EXCEPT THEN I DON'T HAVE THE CORRECT CARB ON. ONE WITH SMALLER THROTTLE PLATE HOLES. MINE DOESN'T HAVE ANY TAG ON IT TO TELL IF IT IS THE CORRECT NUMBER. BUT ALL OF THE THINGS I CAN CHECK LOOKS LIKE THE CORRECT ONE. I DON'T MIND SENDING IT ANYPLACE AS LONG IT IS FIXED RIGHT. ANOTHER SMALL NOTE I AM RUNNING AV GAS 100 OCTANE LOW LEAD I DON'T THINK THAT SHOULD MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE. IT WORK'S OK WITH THE OTHER CARB THANK YOU AGAIN JIM

I have a couple of questions to ask. I put a Pertronixs module in my car.Ingitor 3 a new coil.Trouble with timing What springs are best and on mechanical advance where is the best place to start. Also I truly believe I have the correct 4GC carb. But no ported vacuum just strait from manifold. Is that the way it should be. Correct 400 4sp and A/C Thanks JIM

I want to thank everyone for their answers and the help. The fan clutch that is bad came on the car when I bought it many many years ago. I don't know what manufacture it is and it is 21/2 inches high. It has no spring on the front so I guess it is all liquid silicone. It has numbers on the front 7 9 8614 in that order also on the shaft 0486-20-0825 what they mean I have no idea. I looked up the patterned number with the government and it wasn't patterned until 1969. I also talked to some Hayden engineers they looked in their books and found that they don't make a fan clutch 21/2 inches that will work. When you found the one on eBay what numbers does it have on it or the manufacture name. I haven't talked to the restoration places(fucisk etc.) but if know one makes them who would have them. Again I want to thank everybody. JIM

I would like to put this out to you guys and see if anyone can help. I put a new rebuilt 65 400 ci engine in my 442. Because of gas where I live here in Arizona I lowered the compression down to around 9 or 91/2. It seems to run so so except when I put the pedal to the floor in first gear starting from a stop. It picks up for a split second then falls flat on its face. I have set the timing at 71/2 and 10 degrees. I even set it at 5 degrees but no help. 110 octane or 91 octane makes no difference. I have gone thru the carburetor so many times double and triple times and nothing wrong. The cam is a crane cam with the same specs as the stock cam. The harmonic balancer has not slipped but one thing strange though. The part number on the balancer can't be found in any GM parts books. Thanks for everybody listening I hope someone can help me find the answer. Thank you. Jim Hald 602 843-3147

I am new to the forum. I just completed my 65 442 about a month ago and have a small problem maybe someone can help. I have the 400ci engine and 4gc carb. Because where I live in AZ. I can't get high octane fuel. So when I built the motor I made it about 91/2 ratio. Now in 1st gear when you step on it it falls flat on it's face. Changing the timing helps a little. The idle screws are turned out 5 turns to make it idle half way smooth. Does anyone have any ideas that might help. I am at my wits end. Thanks JIM
