Can you bore a 400 B Block to 4.125 (same as a standard 425) without issues? I've got lots of 425 engine parts and according to Mondello's tech manuel, all the tolerances of the early 425's are the same as the 400's (Crank, connecting rod, stroke, clearances, etc.). Main differance appears to be bore size . I don't want to F up the block if that's too radical. ANd......... maybe it's just too radical and the cost to bore probably is about what a set of pistons is going to cost (about $375 through egge).

If I remember correctly he says in his book going .06 over and using 350 pistons?? I think, I guess I'd have to dig my book out. If you go .120 it will run HOT!!!!!!!!! I bitch about anal people, (well I have poked fun at anal people) but when I put my engine together I got a touch of anal. I had a set of Diamond pistons made, cost like a grand, saved 128 grams in weight per piston if I remember correctly. I also took out a half ass installed sleeve that wasn't leaking and had a new one put in the proper way, anyways I went .01 over. Personally I would not go .120 over.

Ok here's the mud out of the Mondello performance products "manual". They sell a piston kit that is 4.057 diameter by a compression distance of 1.612. That is a stock 350 olds bore and distance. It is the only one they offer other than a 4.087 bore witch is of course a .03 over 350 piston. They do offer a forged piston for the 400 that has a .025 shorter compression distance that would reduce your compression a bit. Also have a larger pin by .004 so you would have to have your rods machined for them to work. They say in da book that it is safe to bore this block .060. The two books they have out are very informative, it would be at this time in my life knowledge cycle the only thing I would buy from those a holes in California.

Well, that should give you an overload of information and ways to go. Glad I could help!, I spent some time deciding what I was going to do so it was easy for me to put the information together.
