Took the body off of the frame I got from boba65442. The car was a Cutlass, yet the frame has the gussets, one piece side rails, and the 442 specific rear crossmember. The part # was nicely preserved under a layer of undercoat, 9780503 S. According to Bro's site, this is a 442 vert frame. Bob owned this car for thirty years, and the frame appears original. Any thoughts?

Could be somebody ordered the package that gives you the heavy duty frame(which is the vert frame), could be that was the next frame in line and they put on what was next in line. If you complaining I'd gladly take it.

There should be a partial VIN on the frame. Did you find it?

Hell no! Not complaining... exactly what I was looking for. Needs a little patching, figured I was going to have to add the 442 stuff anyway. Just thought I would bring it up. Anybody got, or have seen, a regular Cutlass vert frame for comparison?
Ya got a big ass pile of $$$ bubbasz? You can have the frame AND the car!!! ;D

Nick, the top rail is pretty rusty. I'll check later to see if I can find it.

As far as I can tell, a vert frame is a 442 vert frame is a heavy duty frame. All in one. And I don't have a pile of money but I have a pile of car just like you.

The frame on the vert that I started with had all the stuff for the 442 package but was only a cutlass. Not sure but the Fremont frames may have been made only one way and used for either application.

Has nothing to do with carma, just the facts, that's why we do it>>right, west coast pot head, those boys in Cali got it going on, maybe I should think about retiring there. That is as long as there is room for my smoker. Ive heard of Fremont 442's coming with regular Cutlass frames, my Post(Fremont car) has the correct frame. And Chuck don't mind me, this cold ass Michigan weather has got me down, as far as I'm concerned I did good last summer getting my frame back together, just have to do what you can as you can.

A good visual for the 442 vert frame is to look at the holes punched for the transmission mount. The side rail for the 442 will have no holes punched in the outer rail. These are the 4 holes normally punched for the hardtop cars. The Cutlass vert frame will have the 4 holes and the trans mount flange welded on the inner box with 4 holes.

Interesting, they actually had the 4 holes punched in it and then they boxed it and welded on the trans mount onto the boxed frame. Did the Cutlass vert frame have the extra holes in the back for the lower control arm position also, and the hump in the crossmember going over the rear differential? New for me, I always figured the vert frame, 442 vert frame, and the HD frame option were all the same.

Hi Jeff,
Turns out the frames for the three are different. I have the Cutlass convertible and 442 convertible side by side. There are minor differences in the frame. The 442 vert frame is 9780503, as shown on Bro's site and the trans mount holes are omitted.
Just trivial stuff to do on the cold days.

This frame came off a Cutlass, but has pn 9780503 clearly stamped on it. The interesting thing is that the trans mount holes were punched on the right side, but not the left. Hmmm....
