Has anyone reconditioned the power steering unit (not the pump)? It doesn't look too hard, I've got the kit and digging in. Looking for advice as I usually just learn the hard way

Well, I'll guess from the overwhelming response that few have taken on the task or care to comment . Well, I'm bull headed enough to try anything even if I don't know what the heck I'm doing . It's really not to bad for those thinking about it in the future. Biggest challenge was holding the 22 little ball bearings in the piston when you pull out the worm drive and work it through the housing and back into the piston. Instead of the tool it called for I used a piece of flexible but stiff house that's diameter was slightly smaller then the shaft of the worm gear. Of coarse it's easy to brag now because I won't know if it worked until I get the car completely together in a year or so. ;D Here's a few pix though: Power Steering Unit Tear Down Begins Piston After Cover is Removed Adjuster Plug, Valve Boby, Spool Valve and Worm Drive Assembly Pitman Shaft Piston and Internal Bearings Finished Pictures Sorry, but I didn't shoot any pix of the pieces torn down, cleaned and new seals..... was too stressful

Great effort. Super photos. Where did you get the seals?

Kudo's, we need to maybe make a separate section in the tech master section for part/sub assembly rebuilds to keep items like this easily findable. I'll have to give the boss a call and see what his thoughts are.
