Attached are some photos of the rear and front backing plates. You'll note the yellow dab on each (front and rear). Also that the front backing plates were cadmium plated on the front but black on the back. Interesting DRIVERS REAR PASSENGER REAR DRIVERS FRONT BACK SIDE DRIVERS FRONT BRAKE PAD SIDE PASSENGER BRAKE PAD SIDE (BACK WAS BLACK TOO)

Or it could mean someone painted yours along the way?

Personally, I have never seen any indication on any of the more than thirty 442's that I have parted out over the years, that they were cadmium plated. All the ones I've seen were painted black, but that doesn't mean there weren't some out there. The first time you say NEVER, someone shows you something new. I always leave the door open, because I want my info to be right, not the Holy Grail. There were so many variations in the factories, depending on the supply of parts, strikes and God knows what, that we would be nutz to say anything is set in stone.

You are holding the answer in your hands. You cant cad plate just one side of something. Its dipped so both sides get the plate. And GM blacked out the front and rear suspensions before the cars were shipped. So thats where the black paint came from.

I'll post a couple pictures tomorrow but RAMZ is on the beam. One of the backing plates had the black paint bubbled up and not adhereing. When I pulled it off it revealed a really clean look at the Cad plating that was on these.

Here's a picture of the back once I peeled the paint off. Pretty clear confirmation of what RAMZ has always said.

That car is in AMAZING condition, thanks so much for the pics. You got yourself an awesome '65 there.
In the pics it looks like bare steel though and not plating?
How do you feel about disc brakes?

You know the pictures don't do it justice as it definately had a very gold tint. Most of it is the lighting in my garage. If I weren't trying to take this back to original I'd go Disc brakes on the front for sure and probably all around.
