I am trying to remove the console and shifter from my cutlass hardtop with the 2 speed Jetaway. There are two set screws in the T handle which I removed. The T handle slides up about 1/2 inch and stops. I know these things break easily.
I checked the assembly manual this evening and I see a spacer and pin in the top area of the shift assembly. Can someone advise how to proceed so I can get the handle removed without breaking it. I will try again in the AM.
Thanks, Bob

I think there may be three screws in it. Big Mike will know for sure.

What might keep it from coming off will probably be the roller mechanism (the part that your thumb pushes in when you move the shifter), just push it in a little and the handle will come off. Lube it up before you put the handle back on.

Thanks, Big Mike are you out there. I need some help. Nick is correct. There are only two set screws, but sometimes due to over torquing of the screws burrs can be made on the shifter handle keeping them from sliding off easily. Push in the botton and gently wiggle the T-handle from side to side, never front to back, and the handle should come off.

Gentleman thank you for the help. I was able to get it apart. I just did not want to force it. I appreciate the help. I have a second shifter which is broken, has anyone ever been able to fix these? From what I read on BRO's site I think the answer is no.
Thanks, Bob

If any one has a spare shifter handle that they can do without for a while, I like to borrow it to see about duplicating it.
