It would probably be easiest to pull the wheel housing. All of the nuts and bolts that hold it together are on the firewall. I have not done one with the wheel housing installed.

Pull the fender it is a pain in rear to change a core. You can probably do it buy pulling the outer only because the inner is very flexable once the outer is pulled off.

I recently changed mine and got lucky as the previous owner left that one bolt that is behind the fender off. Job went quick and smooth.
When you replace it, leave that one bolt off so if you have to do it again nothing needs to be removed. It has never affected anything.

Please help me remember why the cover under the hood must come off to replace the HC. I am trying to believe the hoses are the only thing under the hood needing attention.
Nevermind I think I figured it out. The underhood cover does not need to come off but you must hold the bolt / nut on the outside to remove the underdash assembly on the inside.
Did I get it right?

The underdash heater core cover has flat studs that go through the firewall. The nuts are in the engine compartment and must be removed.
