My old Sears Diehard died. Since the car is stock I wanted to buy the correct size battery. Every site listed a Group 27 as the OE replacement type. This battery is huge, like 2 inches wider than a group 24 (or 34). No way would this fit in my car, it is longer than the original battery tray and would hit the radiator.
I stuck to the Group 34 (same as 24 but a little smaller in height, and is flat on top in case I go for the battery topper).
Just curious how the Group 27 would be considered the original battery size.
By the way, went to Costco, Interstate battery (800 CCA), 3 yr warranty, 92 bucks. Sometimes just can't beat Costco. Same Diehard was 200.

The original battery would have been an R69, Group 24T, according to my 1971 edition Delco Battery catalog.

Just bought a Group 24 for my car, needed a 1" spacer under it to be same height as old battery. Would probably be fine for a topper.

Original battery was a DC-12 tar top. Black caps. OReillys sells a replacement that fits using the stock hold down.
