having problems with the rubber end seals on an olds 400 with turkey pan.i've heard to use permetex black rtv on both ends running a bead quarter to three eights high running a inch past each corner.doea it matter what colour i use or can i use the orange high temperature rtv copper any feedback would be apprceiated

Used the black many times, never had a leak. Dry fit the manifold and measure the gap to make sure you apply enough. A 3/8 bead should suffice.

That is the way I do it always and never had a leaking problem, just take a good quality RTV and leave out those rubber gaskets that come along with the gasket set but I agree, dry install first and measure!
For more than street use, you can dimple the manifold or the block or both, but it will be troublesome to clean next time you take it apart...

I've found Permatex Ultra Black to be the best RTV available today. I have to physically scrape it off, it adheres so well. That's all I use on the end rails.
