So I'm having some carb issues. Got all my fuel lines and pump sorted which I was hoping was the issue, but it wasn't.
I'm running rich and having flooding issues. When I come to a stop (At a light, etc) when I accelerate, the car will die or bog down immensely. After dying it will hard start for a bit. Recently changed the oil and there was considerable fuel in oil. Enough to smell.
I've gone back about 20 pages on the forum and while there's a few threads where carbs are touched on, compiling info in one recent thread seems like a good idea.
So for a stock 65 intake, what are the aftermarket carb options? I've seen some people say a edelbrock will fit with no adapter, some say it needs an adapter. Possibly a newer Holley that bolts up?
So what carbs have people been running and been happy with? What cfm? Hood clearance and throttle linkage issues?
Any info greatly appreciated.

No one?
I'm trying to get the 4gc running right again.
If it doesn't I need options.

Have you rebuilt it or had it done? If not rebuild it. The needle valve could be leaking

I'm rebuilding it again now. Just waiting for an new accelerator pump and I can throw it back on, should be here tomorrow.
I changed the throttle body to bowl gasket to one with the "vapor vent passages" that I elaborated on a little bit on the 4gc thread below this one.

Make sure your float levels are correct as well. Was having a similar issue (different vehicle) but only when everything got nice and warm and that turned out to be the float level needed to be adjusted.
I will be running a QuadraJet on my '65. I found one from a '74 Super Duty and have been doing some research on adjustments to make. I'll be using a '66 spread-bore intake so it remains relatively stock looking to the average person.
The Olds guru who helped with some work on my engine said to run at least a 750cfm Holley or a 850cfm Q-Jet and get as much fuel into the car as possible which would help keep engine temp down, which the 400ci's are notorious for suffering from. (my engine is just a mild cam, headers, with Ultra-High Compression of course).

When you finish your rebuild, suggest you use "Recreational" or "Marine" gas. I've been running that in my car since I got the crab sorted out, runs much better. No ethanol to damage soft parts in the carb, and no moisture when gas evaporates from long periods of non-use of the car. Our old fuel systems do not like ethanol. Here in Florida, its the same as premium unleaded.

Great point. I'll have to look into that. It's tough here in California, but I have a buddy who works at a local Marina, I'll ask him about the fuel there.
Got the carb back on the car and added a pcv valve. But it's been over 100 degrees the last couple days so I haven't fired the car up yet.

California........don't waste your time on the carb, get started on your hybrid or electric conversion now, before the People's Republic forces you to do it! I'll bet our trunks can hold a 1,000 pound battery!

That's funny. Sad part is it's probably likely sooner than later.

Yeah, can't you just hear the sweet whirring of your 10,000 RPM DC motor as you speed shift from first to second........... Better record the sounds now, then we can play them on the systems in our electric cars and make believe we like driving them!

I ran across this recently when borrowing my buddy's pressure washer. He told me to return it full of non-ethanol fuel, so I had to do some research. And you are right, looks tough in California. www.pure-gas.org/extensions/map.html

If you are considering something not "original", I'd steer you away from carburetors, and recommend EFI. I'm totally pleased and impressed with the Holley Sniper.
