Looking to dress up my engine (455) with chrome valve covers. I see inexpensive ones on eBay ($35-50) Anyone have suggestions on what to look for or stay away from? I’m thinking the tall valve covers with baffles are the correct ones to buy.
thanks for you suggestions and help, john

If you have power brakes.....remember the booster size can cause problems with tall covers.

I would stay away from the China crap. Does not feel nice if you have them in hand, and they leak. It comes down to whats under and whats over. The M/T valve covers are about the tallest that fit under a power brake booster. And if you have H&S Roller rockers, stock valve covers with baffles won`t fit, except you take the baffles out. My favorites are stock! and the next are the M/T`s, but nice ones usually are not cheep. below my 455 in a 72 Cutlass...

If you have a set currently that fit and work well give the mods to the heads and booster, chrome the ones you have. Just use whatever you have on the engine until you get the others back from the chrome shop. But if you want new, doesn’t Summit sell decent ones?

Aftermarket Chinesium chrome covers will leak, but at least they will start rusting and peeling soon after installation, so they have that going for them.
Get stock ones chromed. It will be more money, but a far better product. If you really want a cool look, get a set of the 1973-74 covers with the stamped OLDSMOBILE on them and have those chromed.
