Due to momma wanting to park her new (smaller) company car inside next winter, I need to move my car. Since the Cutlass will not go to storage, I have to build. The largest I can build, by ordinance, is around 1000 sq ft by 15' high. I've been contemplating 30 x 30, 30 x 32 or 24 x 40. It's possible to request a variance (even the mayor has to request) in the height and doing a 24 x 24 or 24 x 30 with a parts loft. I'll be moving the tools, compressor, 100 A service and parts from the 3 car to this one, but the heat will have to stay (why she wants inside).
Any suggestions for a size that seems to work well (my 3 car ends up with dead space which collects stuff)?
Construction, Pole building vs typical framed?(cost, longevity etc...)

24x40 would let you park four cars inside (two deep by two wide). None of the other configurations allow that.
I've erected both pole and metal buildings on my farm. Pole is much less expensive. Metal buildings require an engineered foundation for proper support. This cost me more than the building itself.

I would agree with Joe on the size...plenty or room for your car and work space...as far as metal vs pole or stick built depends on what the city will allow you to build...as far as extra cost for the foundation work for metal buildings goes, out here in la,la land my neighbor install a 40 x 60 metal building a few years back and the foundation drawings were included as part of the deal...cost him a little over $12,000 delivered to his place...he bought from a company in northern Ca. would like to do the same but so far no green light from the other half...
