finally got it running last weekend...had a carb issue, carb has been rebuilt and runs fine now Carter AFB Ca 9500 SA was on it when bought from original owner...issue is... I went to put it in gear and absolutely nothing happened in any gear...trans is the two speed Jetaway...column shift ..checked the vacuum line connection at carb and is fine (steel line with fittings)...changed the rubber hose connection from steel line to the modulator...changed all other vacuum lines, vacuum advance, brake booster, booster had vacuum, check valve came out when I changed the hose, hose pvc valve changed, checked the trans fluid and it was right at the add mark cold....could this be a modulator problem...or possibly the shift controller on the fire wall, sorry, can't think of the correct term, or the trans pump?...car acts like the linkage is not hooked up does absolutely nothing...this trans was rebuilt just a few years ago, maybe 5 or 6 years which in today world means absolutely nothing....Help!!!!!
on another note...I have thought about upgrading to a 200R4...car is bone stock except for the Carb...really hate to change anything at all on this car as we are the second owners and car is all original...what are the issues that i would be dealing with if i decided to do this...or direct me to the threads that have discussed this in the past...I'm sure this has been discussed many times before...not having much luck with the search...
thanks for any suggestions

yeah although i hadn't driven it for a couple of months...never had any issues with it before...carb flooded when I went to start it last time...float stuck to bottom of chamber...looked like green corrosion...so It got rebuilt from the bottom up...anyway as mentioned got it running last weekend just ran out of time so went to move it today...fired right up but know trans...may pull the fitting on the back of the carb or at least hook up my vacuum gauge to it to make sure there is a signal there...could be some crude in the passage although there shouldn't be...professional rebuild...

There is nothing on this carb that would keep the trans from going into gear. If the trans is at the add mark cold, put fluid in it, at least a pint. Sometimes after sitting for a long time, fluid will leak out if the torque converter and then it won't go in gear.

What Mike said. The vac line to the trans controls the vac modulator, which regulates the upshift speed, but won't affect the trans going into first. Either the fluid leaked out or the trans linkage is mis-adjusted or there is an internal problem.
The 200-4R swap is a good one, assuming you get a trans that's built to handle the output of your engine. You'll need to move the crossmember back to the TH400 position. Since this is a convertible and uses the welded tabs on the inside of the boxed frame rails, you'll need to weld on tabs to extend them, as the factory did in the 1967 model year when the TH400 was first used in the A-body line. The original driveshaft works fine with the 200-4R.
Moving the crossmember means that you have to change the front and intermediate e-brake cables, since they hang off the crossmember. Use the ones for a 1967 Cutlass with TH400, which are available from RockAuto as well as all other usual sources.
Of course your column shifter won't be able to access second or first manually. There are no easy conversion kits for this column shifter.
You'll want some type of converter lockup system. Aftermarket kits are available and range from a simple manual toggle switch to electronic control systems. Your call.
You'll need a throttle valve cable. Lots of aftermarket kits are available.

Mike...
Added the fluid as you suggested and everything is fine now...I was going to add some anyway since it was low...Ive seen cars a half to a pint low before and not had this issue...probably a combination of sitting and being low on fluid was just enough to cause the problem as you suggested...as far as the vacuum hoses go I needed to change them anyway along with all of the rubber fuel lines...I try to do this every year to year and a half and this was as good a reason to get it done...besides its like spring out here...in the 80's almost to hot to work in the drive... thanks for your input
Joe...thanks for all of the good input on the trans swap...something I have been considering for some time...sounds like moving the cross member is the biggest issue...this is a totally stock 400...and just gets driven to car shows and for pure enjoyment...no track time...do you think I would be better off with a different trans than the 200R4?, TH400, 350 should I decide to go ahead with the swap?

The TH350 is nearly a bolt-in and the lower first gear makes a big difference off the line.
