The other day I went to start my 65 vert (stock 400 with auto) and the floats stuck in the carb...Carter AFB Ca 9500 SA...anyway turned the carb into a swimming pool and of course all fuel drained into manifold and cylinders...took out the plugs and disconnected spark source, rags in place, and turned engine over a couple of cranks to blow the fuel out...have since sent the carb out for rebuilding...changed oil and filter... question is on restart can I get away with squirting some oil in each cylinder then turning engine over by hand via ratchet at the crank a few turns or am I better off to remove distributor and try and turn oil pump...
one other question unrelated to the above...what is the black goop on all of the palnuts or barrel nuts on all of the trim...I have found this on both of the 65's that I have...I assume it is there to keep the nuts in place and was factory applied?...is it possible to get this stuff or is there something similar or better...curious as to what others have used...
Thanks

You should be ok squirting assembly lube in cyl walls.oil pump will have new oil in less than 5 seconds. I would only prime oil pump manually if you had a fresh rebuild.

thanks for the replies...
would the 3M strip calk work for sealing the heater box at the firewall?...person before me used blue silicone and it was a real mess...had that crap all over...at least he could have used black...the info makes the 3M look like it might work here also...anyway let me know if you think this will work for this application or is there another product I should be looking at... Again thanks...
as far as the engine is concerned I kinda thought that is what I might do...I'll get some assembly oil and turn by hand if I can with the plugs out...might be messy...if not I will..replace plugs and spin it and then try and start it...it has been sitting a little over a week while the carb is being rebuilt so I hope whatever fuel didn't blow out before has evaporated...need to change oil and filter also...
thanks again

should work fine...but they do sell rolls of the heater box caulk (white) in many of the aftermarket parts books...like Year One. Probably sell black as well, I just remember the white.
