If there is no play the throw out bearing can wear out prematurely. I don't know what type of rod you have as there are several types/styles. You can just trim it a bit as long as you don't lose too much of the threads for adjustment. I wouldn't trim off the end that has the rounded end if you have that type, but if you have a grinder you can always reround the end.

Take the time before you start cutting and grinding things and check your assembly procedure. While there`s certainly a possibility the aftermarket part(s) aren`t correct, your assembly could also be incorrect. I`ve seen several equalizer bars installed upside down(you`ll need a leg the size of a tree trunk to push your pedal down), wrong pressure plates, throw out bearings improperly installed, forks tweaked, there`s several things that can be the culprit. There`s more than a little geometry going on thru the entire assembly, for a smooth operating linkage it`s all got to work together. KEEP YOUR EYE ON DETAIL

Your right eye to detail is the key. everything is working great I did cut about 1/4 inch off rod all is good. I'm so glad I made the swap to 4 speed now my wife says I have a real muscle car, and I'm a real man, took her 38 years to figure that out.Now i take her to Folsom lake and teach her how to drive a stick!!!!!!
