So I'm starting my engine rebuild today and have a question on what kind of intake manifold gasket to use. manifold is edelbrock aluminum and when I removed it their was the tin full coverage valley gasket. My question is should I use that tin gasket or opt to the paper or cork dual gasket set. Im guessing that the tin gasket is designed to keep the oil as far from the intake as possible. just a guess.

Read the directions that came with the manifold, tells you exactly what gaskets to use. Or you can search this site it has been covered numerous times.

I do not have any directions. I bought my car for little to no cash from my best friends dead uncle and the car was in a million pieces. Took me 9months before I could even make her a roller. Adding this I did do some searching on the forum but got mixed reviews. Seems most guys are running aftermarket heads due to the constant lifter noises?

Edelbrock website - You need to determine which manifold type you have. If it is the performer (2151) or Torker(2730), they recommend: "INSTALLATION NOTE: Recommended intake gasket: Edelbrock #7284". Available almost everywhere. Use "Permatex Right Stuff" for the front and rear gaskets. If you're worried about oil under the intake hitting the intake (if you don't use turkey tray gasket), Modello sells this valley tray part. I've used it and it works. www.mondellotwister.com/IntakeFuelSys.htm

"INSTALLATION NOTE: Recommended intake gasket: Edelbrock #7284". Available almost everywhere. Imagine that - the Edelbrock recommended gasket is the one that THEY sell... I've said this on just about every Olds forum there is: I've been using the factory metal gasket for over four decades on iron, factory aluminum, and aftermarket aluminum intakes with no issues whatsoever. Be sure to install the gasket per the CSM directions, using RTV around the water ports. Be sure to get the four locating features properly fitted into the recesses in the heads. Throw away the rubber end gaskets and use black RTV. Torque the bolts properly and don't lose any sleep over it.

I used a Mr. Gasket set on my 455 with a Performer. I also used the end seals with some rtv. No problems or leaks.
