Think I might just throw in the towel on the switch pitch since I can't find the problem and don't want to keep spending money on it. Thinking of putting a 200 4R in it for several reasons. Curious for any feedback on them and if anyone has one for sale. Thanks for any input.

Not to hijack your thread Gary but what are the pros and cons of 200 4R and 700 4R .

I have had both in a Cutlass. The 200R4 bolts right up (when you get the one with the olds pattern) but some say isn't as strong. Linkage hooks right up. Might have to play with the driveshaft length I cant remember. The 700R4 is for Chev engines only and I don't know if they have adapters. You have to watch the floor clearance at the servo as they hit.
I have a 200R4 or 200-4R as some call it in the Cutlass I own. I had to change my driveshaft as someone has stuck some big ass thing in the car before I got it but other than that I like it. No problems. Better gas mileage.
Check with the Buick Grand National folks cause they know where to buy the best ones.

Very nice and clean! Unlike mine. I kind of remember the shim thing at the crossmember. No vibration from shimming mine. Nice to see that your driveshaft was the right length to bolt up to that nice looking non Olds dif. And another note, shiftworks has a nice conversion kit to use a cable setup with the original floor shifter.

I'm another one that wants to do this, but I'm pretty sure my stock monte SS trans won't live all that long behind even my mild 455. Just have to save up. Maybe next year.

It wont,455's torque will kill it. Most of these 200-4R's were behind 307 150hp smog motors and such. I started with a 87 Buick GN, I think the ID on the case says 401 BK. Jack Laswell in the DFW area is nationally known in the Buick GN circle. He built my tranny. I just ordered a TCI 200-R4 lock up kit-This easy-to-install lockup wiring kit for a 2004R. This will allow you hands-free, automatic activation of the torque converter clutch in 4th ... It's supposed to be a great kit for $100.00. The other are more expensive-B@M for example.

Despite that, I've killed three stock 200-4Rs with them. Once you do get a properly built 200-4R, be sure to use an aux trans cooler. Heat really kills these transmissions.

Joe have you seen or heard of anybody using the shims I have used on my cross member? No, but if it gets the output shaft of the trans parallel to the pinion on the rear end, and the driveshaft doesn't hit the tunnel, they won't hurt anything.

Once I get the car running we shall see, I also fabbed two small 1/8 inch thick plates. Using them for added strength when bolting the cross member to the frame. May have been a little over kill but its what I decided to do.

I am putting a 200R4 in my 65 cutlass and I was wondering what TV cable and brackets those of you who put one in your cars used? I have an Edelbrock intake and carb. and a stock 330 engine. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

After years of research I just completed the swap from a TH 350 to 200-4R. Wish I had done it sooner. Amazing difference. Given my situation I went with bowties stage 2 tranny. Bought the TV setup as well. The tranny is a direct fit, yoke and driveline as well. The cross member needs to be located back a bit but simply drill four holes. Used a lockup convertor. The TV setup is easy if you have a pressure gauge (which they sell). Also important is to install a temp gauge as high temps kill tranny's. They set up the tranny for a direct bolt in with the right springs and setup for the TV cable if you buy everything from them. I went with a moderate but higher stall converter and so far am very impressed. I'm running a 425, bored .30 over, balanced with moderate enhancements with 3.73 rear. The lower 1st gear in the 200 combined with the tourqe olds has and those gears is as much as I need. The OD is awesome on the highway. Only had it out a handful of times but so far, impressed. Will post some pix later but wouldn't hesitate. 700 requires also t of mods, a good 200 will handle all you want.

Additionally, bowties strongly recommends routing cooling lines through the radiator only. From my tests the temps stay perfectly so don't need a tranny cooler.

I used all Lokar components for my tranny and Q-jet. I can take a picture of the set up if like.
