WHATS A GOOD PERFORMANCE AND SOUNDS REALLY GOOD? FOR A BIG BLOCK? I'm using a 2.5" MagnaFlow H pipe system and very happy with the sound. Just load enough. Not sure about others.

Mine came with loud as sh*t Flowmasters. Someone on the list said they make quieter versions, but the ones I have are just way too loud. I'm going to switch to Magnaflow.

I have the same as "oldsproject"-Magnaflow-and think they sound great 2.5 in also. Local guy is an old race car dude and that's all he'll put on these old cars for the best sound.

I agree with 21065gary and Big Mike. I put 2 1/2 in. Magnaflows on my post car with an x-pipe and love the sound. They've got a nice "rumble" out the back, but are quiet inside the car. I put series 50 Flowmasters on my '40 Chevy (50's are supposed to have less inside noise) and at about 2500 rpm, they get kind of a "drone" to them....waaay too loud inside the car. Very happy with the Magnaflows.....and they are a lot cheaper, if you're "frugal".

I run flowmasters. Always have. They are the three chamber mufflers. No idea what series that is now.

Good ol' (no)Flowmasters. They have the magic combination of being obnoxiously loud (not to mention the infamous droning) while simultaneously having among the worst flow numbers in every published test.
Personally I've had great luck with 14" Dynomax Turbos on my A-body cars. I have a Magnaflow on my 62 because it was slightly smaller than the Dynomax and I've come to like it. Originally it was somewhat loud and agricultural sounding, but it appears to have quieted down over the last four years (or, as my wife suggests, my hearing has gotten worse). I suspect what's happened is that the fiberglass packing in the Magnaflow has become coated with carbon, which would absorb a little more of the sound.

I have a 3" Pypes system with Hooker Maximum flo's. Not too quiet. Needed a little customising because the muffler inlet/outlets are different than the system was designed for.

It´s a personal choice and it´s depents on how you use your car..i hear that the cam can be the choirmaster... I have experience with: 50´s Delta-Flows 2,5" with H-Pipe on a 455 low compr. with headers and a mild 260H 212/212 CompCam: no drone, at acceleration you can hear the great Flowmaster sound and they are quit at idle, for me a little to quit-but great for daily driver.A really great Muffler. 40´s 2,5" with H-pipe 9,5:1 440 mopar with headears stock cam : great sound but start drone inside and loud (terrible) at nearly 2000 rpm,in combination with a loose converter i think you don´t be happy (at street) 30´s Delta-Flow (think no more available) so there's no sense to talk about. Super 40´s i talk with a senior tech from Flowmaster, he recomments me the Super 40´s...not for daily driver, they don´t drone but still have the unique sound outside but not to loud inside the car. 2,5" H-pipe low compr. 455 with headers and mild cam. The Magnaflow are for me like real57 say -modern muscle car sound- don´t know why so many guys use them, BUT as i say personal choice! ...hope it help
